The Premier League can't half be a cruel mistress.Whether you're moving to the English top-flight for the first time or transferring amongst its 20 clubs, there's no guarantee of success regardless of what you've achieved elsewhere. You only need to look at the long list of players such as Angel Di Maria, Andriy Shevchenko, Radamel Falcao and Juan Sebastián Verón to see that a Premier League transfer can break even the most talented and capable ballers. So now that we're approaching the halfway mark in the 2022/23 campaign, it only makes sense to take stock of how the latest batch of summer arrivals are faring in the competition. And you only have to look at an exercise that Sky Sports ran back in the summer to see just how hard it can be to predict which signings will thrive and which purchases will flop.

Who did fans vote as the Premier League's best signings XI?

That's because the Premier League broadcaster gave fans the opportunity to vote for what they considered to be the best XI of signings making a move to the English top-flight.

Fan votes can come out with wonky results at the best of times, but when they surround the ever-unpredictable business of transfers, perhaps we should have seen the carnage coming.

And we say that because, despite the best efforts of the people, many of their forecasts are looking pretty dire barely four months since the transfer window slammed shut on September 1.

But don't just take our word for it because even Sky themselves re-shared the XI this week, so be sure to check out how the supporters got on for yourself down below:

Did the fans get it right?

Ok, so let's start with the positives: Bernd Leno has been fantastic between the sticks for Fulham, Sven Botman has been a defensive monster at Newcastle United, Christian Eriksen has oozed with class at Manchester United and Ivan Perisic has been fairly solid for Tottenham Hotspur.

And we'll let you make your minds up about Darwin Nunez and whether his Liverpool record of 10 goals in 23 games, albeit littered with misses along the way, qualifies a designation of flop, success or neither.

Elsewhere, though and things are a lot more clearcut with Djed Spence playing a combined total of five minutes in the Premier League this season, while his Spurs teammate Richarlison is yet to score from 10 outings in the competition since leaving Everton.

Spence appears for Spurs in the FA Cup.

Speaking of Tottenham and Yves Bissouma, although a good addition to squad depth, must be questioning his decisions having started as many league games on the bench this season as he has on the pitch.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been wading through wildly inconsistent form at Chelsea ever since a promising start and the jury is still very much out on Raheem Sterling as he struggles to stop the rot of the Graham Potter era with six goals in 22 matches.

And Philippe Coutinho rounds things off as a signing that ages worse and worse by the week with the Aston Villa ace recently suffering humiliation at the hands of League Two Stevenage on Twitter.

So, all in all, it's not the best set of results for Premier League fans who thought they were onto something with an XI of players bound to success just a few months ago.

However, while they've fallen short for the most part so far, both the fans and players themselves can find solace in the fact that there's still plenty of time to turn things around.
