Tottenham Hotspur offloading both Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil this month would be surprising, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

The former has recently been linked with a move away from Hotspur Way, but Taylor is not expecting him or his Spanish team-mate to leave north London this transfer window.

Tottenham transfer news - Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil

According to the MailOnline, Serie A side Salernitana are interested in signing Sarr on loan.

The 20-year-old arrived at Tottenham from Metz in a deal worth £14m back in 2021, as reported by The Guardian, but has not played too much football at Spurs.

He was immediately loaned back to Metz and only made his Premier League debut this month.

As for Gil, the Evening Standard claims the Spaniard, who cost Tottenham around £21m when he joined them from Sevilla, has attracted loan interest from his homeland.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil?

Taylor thinks Sarr and Gil have stepped up at a time when Tottenham have needed them to and would now be surprised if they left the club this month.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Express journalist said: "I would be very surprised if Spurs offload both him and Bryan Gil. Obviously, in recent weeks, they've really sort of caught the eye in a time of need for Spurs when they've had injuries."

Should Tottenham keep Pape Matar Sarr and Bryan Gil at the club?

For now, yes. Antonio Conte has often complained about the size of his squad, so allowing Sarr and Gil to go makes little sense unless replacements are coming in.

"We did good things," the Italian said back in September (via Reuters) when discussing Spurs' summer transfer business. "But I have to be honest with you, because I see other squads of top teams, there's still too much distance.

"For this reason, we have to know we have just started this process to improve the squad."

Gil has also been able to make a bit of an impact of late, providing an assist in Tottenham's impressive 4-0 win against Crystal Palace last week.

Naturally, Spurs supporters will want more. However, the former Sevilla man is still just 21 years of age and has not been given too many opportunities in north London.

His game time, though, has gone up in Tottenham's last few fixtures, so maybe he does have a long-term role in Conte's squad.
