Southampton could have an “indication this week” over whether they can progress on a deal to bring Lorient and Nigeria striker Terem Moffi to St. Mary’s this month, transfer insider Dean Jones has suggested to GiveMeSport.

According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, West Ham United have now joined in the race for Moffi’s signature, with the Ligue 1 club valuing the striker at £25m.
The same journalist says that whilst the Saints “remain at the table” for the 23-year-old’s services, a move is now less likely due to the asking price from the French outfit.
Meanwhile, Foot Mercato have reported that the south coast club have already tabled a bid within the region of £8.8m for the 6 foot 2 striker’s services, which has been rejected by Lorient.
Jones told GiveMeSport at the beginning of the month that Southampton had “checked out” several transfer targets for the January transfer window, with Moffi being one of them.
And the transfer insider now believes that indications over whether a deal can be progressed will become clearer this week.

When asked about the potential transfer of Moffi to Southampton, Jones told GiveMeSport: “The criteria fits. It's good in that sense and the terms around him are being explored right now. I think we should have an indication this week over whether they can progress.”
Would Moffi be a good signing for Southampton?
Moffi could represent the ideal centre-forward target for Southampton this month, with the side having only scored 15 goals in 18 Premier League fixtures so far this season.
Meanwhile, the nine-time Nigeria international has hit the back of the net ten times in 16 appearances this season as per Transfermarkt, suggesting that he could provide the added firepower that Jones requires in the final third of the pitch.
The left-footed striker’s performances in Ligue 1 this season have earned him an average Sofascore rating of 7.07, having scored an average of 0.6 goals per game and achieved a goal conversion rate 31%.
Therefore, though £25m may seem like a steep price for a player who is unknown to Premier League audiences, the addition of the goalscorer could be just the tonic Southampton need to remain in the Premier League this season.
