Wolverhampton Wanderers are "interested" in Viktor Gyökeres, but any deal would cost a "big fee", talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook told GIVEMESPORT.

Gyökeres, who has impressed during his two-year spell with Coventry City, sits second in the current Championship Golden Boot race.

Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news - Viktor Gyökeres

Already being praised for the behind-the-scenes work he's done at Wolves, Julen Lopetegui is now looking to guide the West Midlands-based side up the table and away from danger. Currently occupying one of the three relegation positions, Wolves are facing down the barrel of a Championship return, unless they can turn their form around.

A report in The Times last month revealed Lopetegui was keen on bringing six new players to Molineux during the January window, as the ex-Sevilla boss looks to revamp his current squad. Despite spending in excess of £100 million in the summer, it appears the Wolves board are willing to back their new boss with the chequebook.

As the division's lowest scorers, one area Lopetegui is looking to improve this month is in attack, with Matheus Cunha having already been signed from Atletico Madrid. Joining on an initial six-month loan, the Brazilian will make his switch to Wolves permanent in the summer, with Wolves holding a £35 million obligation to buy.

With one forward already through the door, Wolves are keen to bring in at least one more and suggestions indicate they may be turning to the Championship to find their man. Coventry forward Gyökeres has been linked with a move away from the Midlands-based side, but reports from CoventryLive suggest no approaches have been made for the striker. The report states, amid interest from Leeds United and Wolves, it's believed Gyökeres isn't available for transfer in January.

What's Crook said about Gyökeres to Wolves?

Wolves are in desperate need of goals and Coventry marksman Gyökeres is one player they're looking at, according to talkSPORT reporter Crook.

In an interview with GMS, Crook revealed: "There is interest in Viktor Gyökeres (from Wolves), but again, I think Coventry want a big fee.

"So whether Wolves are willing to pay that is open to interpretation."

What would Gyökeres offer to Wolves?

As of now, Gyökeres himself has netted more league goals than the entire Wolves team this season, with the Swedish international currently boasting 13 to his name (Transfermarkt). Admittedly, Gyökeres is playing Championship football and Coventry have played more matches than Wolves. But with 40 goal contributions in just under 100 matches for the Sky Blues, Gyökeres has proven he can do it in English football. Indeed, over his career, he has managed 111 strikes to his name.

A tricky forward, capable of dancing past defenders and finishing in front of goal, Gyökeres could add a touch of dynamism to Wolves' one-dimensional attack. However, without any Premier League experience, it would likely represent a gamble for Lopetegui and co., should they choose to pursue Gyökeres' signature.
