Wolverhampton Wanderers have ‘walked away’ from a potential deal for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has informed GiveMeSport.

The highly-rated 19-year-old is believed to be on the Midlands outfit’s radar, but it now seems unlikely that a switch will happen in the January transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers transfer news – Alex Scott

John Percy of The Telegraph recently revealed that Wolves ‘have been in talks’ with Bristol City over Scott, who has firmly established himself in the first-team squad over the last 18 months.

However, the Robins are said to be demanding a £25 million fee to part ways with the England Under-20 international.

Scott still has two and a half years left to run on his current contract at Ashton Gate, but Percy has claimed that his valuation is making a possible transfer unlikely this winter.

Wolves have already welcomed Matheus Cunha to the club this January, while The Times have stated that new manager Julen Lopetegui wants to welcome up to six new additions.

Nevertheless, unless Bristol City drop their asking price of Scott, it appears as though Wolves will have to focus their attention on alternative midfield targets.

What has Crook said about Scott?

Wolves may be on the lookout for Joao Moutinho’s long-term heir after the 36-year-old entered the final six months of his contract at Molineux.

But Crook has told GMS that the Old Gold are ‘not going to necessarily push the button’ on the Scott deal due to his price tag.

He said: “I think Alex Scott they've walked away from. I was told that the money that Bristol City are asking for is quite extortionate, so they're not going to necessarily push the button on that.”

Would Scott be a good signing?

Scott, a versatile engine room operator who can play in a defensive or attacking role, enjoyed an impressive breakout campaign last term, registering four goals and two assists in 38 Championship appearances.

And the teenager has carried that form into 2022/23, setting up five strikes in 25 league games while putting up some eye-catching underlying numbers, leading to him being lauded as a “tremendous” talent by former boss Tony Vance.

As per WhoScored, Scott has averaged 2.4 tackles, more than any of his teammates, and one key pass per Championship outing so far this season, a total only bettered by Jay Dasilva.

It’s clear that Scott is a player full of potential who is only likely to improve over the coming years, but £25m is a sizeable fee for someone with no Premier League experience.
