Nottingham Forest are “in negotiations” with Palmeiras over a potential deal to add midfielder Danilo to Steve Cooper’s squad at the City Ground this month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The East Midlands side are looking to avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship having been promoted to the Premier League last season.

Nottingham Forest transfer news – Danilo

According to Romano, Palmeiras have not yet accepted Forest’s offer to sign Danilo this month, with the Daily Mail reporting the bid to be worth £18m plus add-ons.

The same publication state that the Tricky Trees tried to sign the Brazilian last summer, with both Arsenal and Atlético Madrid interested in a potential deal for the 21-year-old.

Forest have already made 24 signings since their return to the Premier League and are still pushing to add a further addition in a desperate bid to keep the club in the top flight for another season.

Romano has previously informed GiveMeSport that Danilo is one of the names that has been on Arsenal’s shortlist, but the north London side have not reached advanced negotiations in their pursuit of a midfielder.

And the journalist has now told GMS that it is Forest who are competing for the two-time Copa Libertadores winners’ signature, alongside Ligue 1 outfit Monaco.

What has Romano said about Nottingham Forest and Danilo?

Romano told GiveMeSport: “We’ve had many rumours about Danilo of Palmeiras but at the moment he’s in negotiations with Nottingham Forest, with Monaco involved. For Arsenal, at the moment, the real priority is the attacking players and defenders.”

Would Danilo be a good signing for Nottingham Forest?

At the age of just 21, Danilo has gained plenty of experience that should stand him in good stead for the transition to European football, having made 141 senior career appearances with Palmeiras, scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists, as per Transfermarkt.

The young prodigy has already won all there is to win in his native Brazil, having added a Copa Sudamericana as well as a Brazilian league and cup on top of the aforementioned Libertadores successes, suggesting that now might be the right time for him to test out new waters in English football.

Whilst Danilo may not be an instantly recognisable name for Premier League audiences, Forest could be making a very shrewd addition if the talent lives up to his undoubted potential and therefore this looks like a signing that is very much worth making.
