Aston Villa have not submitted "any official bid" for target Matteo Guendouzi, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano told GIVEMESPORT.

The former Arsenal man is subject to interest from Villa, but Romano insists no approach has been made yet.

Aston Villa transfer news - Matteo Guendouzi

Labelled a flop during his final years with Arsenal, Guendouzi has enjoyed a dizzying return to prominence and a Premier League reunion could now be on the cards. Part of the France side that reached the World Cup final, Guendouzi is linked with a move to Villa, according to reports from France.

It's believed Guendouzi, who has been playing for Olympique de Marseille since 2021, is admired fondly by Villa boss Unai Emery. However, any approach for the midfielder would likely be costly, with Marseille valuing the player in excess of €30 million, as per the same FootMercato report.

Guendouzi remains under his reported £42,000-a-week contract until June 2025, meaning Marseille could hold the upper hand in any negotiations. Coupled with this, Marseille are also said to be happy with Guendouzi and aren't expected to be pushing for the player's departure, according to 90min.

And there are suggestions that despite their rumoured interest, no official approach for Guendouzi has been submitted just yet.

What has Romano said about Guendouzi to Villa?

In an interview with GMS, transfer expert Romano hinted that Villa were interested in Guendouzi, but haven't pulled the trigger on a move yet.

"So at the moment, they tell me they’ve not received any official bid yet," Romano revealed.

"Let’s wait for Aston Villa to move, but I think they will be busy in the second part of January, yes."

What would Guendouzi offer Villa in midfield?

Having worked together with Emery during their Arsenal days, Guendouzi is already well accustomed to the Spanish manager's demands. A versatile midfield player, capable of playing a variety of positions, the ex-Gunners man has impressed during his spell in France, featuring 79 times for Marseille.

During that time Guendouzi has been able to increase his creative output, by registering 26 goal contributions - an increase of 20 from his time with Arsenal. Such performances have seen his stock rise, with Guendouzi now ranking inside the top 30% for non-penalty goals and the top 20% for assists per 90 minutes, when compared to other midfielders (Fbref).

Having already secured their first signing of the January window - £13.3 million defender Alex Moreno from Real Betis - it's suggested by Romano that Villa could have a busy window, with Guendouzi a player Emery is said to be keen on bringing to Villa Park.
