Liverpool could look to add Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes to Jürgen Klopp’s squad at Anfield this summer, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The Reds are looking to replenish their midfield next season with several big names linked with a move to Merseyside.

Liverpool transfer news – Matheus Nunes

According to The Telegraph, Liverpool could look to bring Nunes to Anfield this summer, in a deal that could be worth £44m as per an agreement when he joined Wolves last August.

The 24-year-old joined the Molineux outfit for a then club-record £38m fee, despite reported interest from both Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, it looks like his time in the West Midlands could prove to be a fleeting visit as Klopp looks to revamp his midfield department, with four players who play in the position having entered the final six months of their contracts at Anfield this month.

In December, it was reported that Borussia Dortmund and England’s Jude Bellingham will be Liverpool’s top transfer target for the summer window, but CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has recently told GiveMeSport that the club have Nunes on their shortlist.

And Romano states that the Reds also have a good relationship with the 11-cap Portugal international’s agent in Jorge Mendes, meaning that a move could happen in the summer.

What has Romano said about Liverpool and Nunes?

Having been asked about whether a Liverpool move for Nunes is possible, Romano told GiveMeSport: “Not for January, but I think this is something that could happen in the summer. He is one of the players they really appreciate and was already on Liverpool’s list before he joined Wolves. They have a very good relationship with his agent.”

Would Nunes be a good signing for Liverpool?

Despite joining Wolves in August, Nunes is yet to hit the back of the net for Wolves, providing a solitary assist in 15 Premier League outings, as per Transfermarkt.

However, with the appointment of new head coach Julen Lopetegui in November, the 6 foot midfielder is now “finding his feet” in the English top flight, having been praised for an 8/10 display against Aston Villa by Express & Star journalist Liam Keen earlier this month.

The former Sporting man impressed in Wolves’ last game in a 1-1 Carabao Cup draw at Nottingham Forest, having earned himself a Sofascore rating of 7.5 after achieving a 90% pass success rate from 63 attempts, winning eight of his ten ground duels and scoring his spot-kick in what was ultimately a penalty shootout defeat for the West Midlands side.

Nunes may have endured a slow start to life in English football, but having had the time to acclimatise under a new head coach, we may be seeing exactly the reason why Klopp’s side are prepared to part with £44m for his services in the summer.
