Aston Villa “are speaking to Villarreal” about potentially signing winger Arnaut Danjuma for Unai Emery’s squad at Villa Park this month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The former Bournemouth star left the Cherries to sign for the La Liga side in a deal worth £21.3m back in August 2021.

Aston Villa transfer news – Arnaut Danjuma

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are joined in their interest to sign Danjuma this month by Bournemouth and Everton, who is valued at £45m, as per Marca.

The same publication states that the Dutchman is available for a loan move back to English shores having suffered a breakdown in his relationship with some of his teammates at the La Liga club, whilst The Athletic's David Ornstein has reported that the former Cherries star is now in London ahead of potential negotiations on a loan move to a Premier League side.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has recently told GiveMeSport that Danjuma is the club’s top transfer target, with the winger being the first name they explored signing ahead of the January market.

The Villans have already made one signing from Spanish shores this month, having welcomed the addition of Real Betis left-back Álex Moreno for £13.2m.

And now Romano has hinted that Danjuma could be “an option” in the market for Villa, as Unai Emery looks to put his own stamp on the side.

What has Romano said about Aston Villa and Danjuma?

When speaking about Everton and Villa’s interest in Danjuma, Romano told GiveMeSport: “Unai Emery knows the player so well so he could be an option also for Aston Villa. I’m told there is a chance for him to leave in January. So, all these clubs are speaking to Villarreal.”

Would Danjuma be a good signing for Aston Villa?

Danjuma – who has been described as a “nightmare” for defences by pundit Kevin Phillips – did not pull up any trees during his first spell in the Premier League with Bournemouth, having been unable to produce a goal or assist in 14 top-flight appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

However, the following season saw him hit the back of the net 15 times and produce seven assists in the Championship according to the same stats provider, earning him his move to Villarreal in the summer of 2021.

The move to La Liga went on to produce the six-time Netherlands international’s best season, with the 25-year-old bagging 16 goals and producing four assists as the Spanish side reached the Champions League semi-finals.

Therefore, two and a half years after his last Premier League appearance, Danjuma may now feel that it is time for him to have another crack at English football’s top flight, and prove himself to be a capable performer at the top level.
