Tottenham Hotspur have a "verbal agreement" with Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro, journalist Rudy Galetti has told GiveMeSport.

However, Galetti says the Portuguese club's unwillingness to negotiate and accept anything lower than the player's release clause is causing problems.

Tottenham transfer news - Pedro Porro

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently told GMS that Tottenham are leading the race for Porro.

London rivals Chelsea have also been linked with the right-back, with 90min claiming that they have made him a target as they look for cover for Reece James.

The same outlet states that Porro has a €45m (around £40m) release clause in his contract.

Right now, Antonio Conte's current options for the right wing-back position at Tottenham are Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty and Djed Spence.

What has Rudy Galetti said about Pedro Porro and Tottenham?

While talks between Tottenham and Porro have gone well, Galetti says Sporting are not interested in holding discussions with the north London club about the player.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "There's a verbal agreement, a general understanding between Tottenham and the player. The main issue at this stage is the position of Sporting. Sporting don't want to discuss him. The only way to buy him is to pay the release clause, which is set at €45m."

Are there any other right-backs Tottenham can look at this month?

The Athletic's Jack Pitt-Brooke recently made a case for Southampton's Kyle Walker-Peters, who could be both a good and attainable option for Spurs this month.

It is believed that Tottenham included a £30m buy-back clause in the deal that saw the 25-year-old leave north London for the south coast permanently back in 2020.

He was one of Southampton's top performers last season, making 1.8 tackles per game, according to WhoScored. Only three of his team-mates recorded higher averages.

Walker-Peters also completed two dribbles a match, the most in his squad, showing that he can also be a threat going forward.

All things considered, the England international looks like he could be a good right wing-back option at Tottenham.

Porro, however, appears to be the man Conte wants at Hotspur Way. But if the Italian fails to land him and still wants to strengthen the right side of his defence, Walker-Peters is definitely a name that should be discussed.

For now, though, he must try and get the best out of the likes of Emerson and Doherty.
