Newcastle United are “informed” on the situation of Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his squad at St. James’ Park this month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The 18-year-old is now in the last six months of his £4k-per-week contract at Signal Iduna Park.

Newcastle transfer news – Youssoufa Moukoko

According to sources in Spain, Newcastle are accelerating their interest in signing Moukoko this month, with the two-cap Germany international yet to agree on terms to a new contract with the Bundesliga side.

German media outlet Sport1 has indicated that the Magpies are prepared to rival fellow Premier League outfit Chelsea in a bid to secure the youngster’s signature, though the station also adds that the player would prefer to stay at Dortmund.

As per the Evening Standard, PIF are prepared to pay the youngster a £150k-per-week salary, which would make him one of the highest-paid teenagers in the game.

Romano has recently told GiveMeSport that Dortmund have offered Moukoko the chance to stop with the German giants and sign a contract extension, which is set to further complicate a potential deal with either Chelsea or Newcastle.

And the transfer insider also told GMS that the north east club are “informed” on the starlet’s situation, but have not yet made a bid for the striker.

What has Romano said about Newcastle and Moukoko?

Romano told GiveMeSport: “It's true that Premier League clubs are exploring the situation. Newcastle are informed, but I'm told that at the moment there is still no bid on the table and negotiations with Dortmund yet.”

Would Moukoko be a good signing for Newcastle?

Moukoko – who has previously been described as a “wonder” – has been in solid form so far this season, having scored six goals and provided four assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

The youngster has earned himself an average WhoScored rating of 6.88 for his displays in the top flight, which ranks the talent as the side’s joint-fifth-best performer for the current campaign, suggesting he is more than capable of stepping up to the plate on the big stage.

And the Yaoundé-born star compares favourably with his positional counterparts, ranking in the top 9% of forwards across Europe’s top five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for non-penalty goals per 90 minutes (0.60) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

Therefore, if Newcastle could secure the addition of one of the continent’s brightest young talents, they make feel that the dent in the wage bill will be worth every penny.
