The midfielder was part of the Morocco side that reached the semi-finals of the World Cup last month, and is now being linked with a move to the Premier League.

Indeed, according to The Daily Mail, Angers have asked for a fee around £39m for the midfielder, which of course would represent another record-breaking figure for the Whites after their deal for Hoffenheim's Georginio Rutter.

What did O'Rourke say about Leeds' move for Ounahi?

While the old adage has always been to be wary about signing players off the back of a good World Cup, O'Rourke has suggested that Ounahi could be able to buck that trend at Leeds.

He said: "Yeah, real exciting signing. One of the breakout stars of the World Cup for Morocco with his all-energy displays and ball-carrying abilities as well. I think he'd be a perfect fit for Leeds."

Ounahi signing would be statement of intent from Leeds

Such was Ounahi's impressive performances at the World Cup that AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho singled him out for special praise after Morocco beat Portugal to reach the quarter-finals.

He said: "They have individuals, (Yassine) Bounou was an individual during the competition and in this game was the same, (Sofyan) Amrabat, I know him from Italian football, very good player but their No.8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi was absolutely incredible. So, they have players, a coach and an incredible spirit."

Versatile enough to play in numerous positions in midfield, including holding, box-to-box and as a number ten, Ounahi would offer Marsch some added strength in depth in the engine room, and the kind of work-rate and dynamism that seems like an ideal fit for Leeds' style of play.

As per Sofascore, the Moroccan averages more than one tackle and interception each per game in Ligue 1 this season, and wins six duels per match too at a success rate of 55% - to put that into context, Tyler Adams has similar interception numbers, exactly the same duels won per game, but significantly more tackles.

Given Leeds have gone big with a new forward this month already in Rutter, splashing the cash to bring Ounahi in too would represent an impressive statement of intent from the club.
