Tottenham Hotspur target Marcus Edwards would give "serious consideration" to a move back to the north London club, journalist Pete O'Rourke has told GiveMeSport.

The Sporting Lisbon winger has been linked with a return to Hotspur Way, and O'Rourke says he would be open to one.

Tottenham transfer news - Marcus Edwards

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported that Tottenham are plotting to raid Sporting for both Edwards and his team-mate Pedro Porro.

The former has a £52m release clause in his contract, but the outlet states that Spurs still hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause as part of his previous transfer.

As a result, according to The Telegraph, Tottenham could, in theory, have the opportunity to re-sign their former player for just £26m.

If it is that simple, then perhaps Edwards could make a return to north London before the end of the January transfer window.

What has Pete O'Rourke said about Marcus Edwards and Tottenham?

O'Rourke thinks Edwards would be keen on a Spurs homecoming.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "Marcus Edwards would give serious consideration to a move back to Tottenham.

"Obviously, he did very well against them in the Champions League this season, and I think the whole point of him leaving England in the first place to go to Sporting Lisbon was to get first-team football and to prove himself with the ultimate goal of probably coming back to England."

Marcus Edwards' stats for Sporting Lisbon

Edwards is having a very good campaign at Sporting, scoring five goals and providing five assists in 16 league appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

He has also impressed in the Champions League this season, netting a couple of times in the competition, including in the 1-1 draw against his former side.

In Sporting's 2-0 win versus Tottenham at home prior, he caused Antonio Conte's men problems all evening, with The Sun's Tom Barclay praising him that day for the way he easily brushed Eric Dier aside.

Ultimately, if the Premier League outfit want to sign a new attacker this month, Edwards could be their man.

He can make an impact in the final third and may also not cost them too much money thanks to their sell-on clause.

Spurs already have some great attacking options in Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, for example. But if Conte is looking for more, then Edwards is certainly a name worth considering in this transfer window.
