Aston Villa’s potential move for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma “makes a lot of sense” for Unai Emery’s side at Villa Park, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has told GiveMeSport.

The 25-year-old has previously played under the Villans’ Spanish head coach during the pair’s time at the wide man’s current club.

Aston Villa transfer news – Arnaut Danjuma

According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Danjuma has landed in the UK ahead of talks with several sides with a potential loan move to the Premier League on the cards this month.

Villa have already confirmed the signing of Real Betis left-back Álex Moreno, whilst a fee between the club and Chicago Fire for the services of striker Jhon Durán amid their interest in Danjuma.

Transfer insider Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT last week that the winger is Emery’s top transfer target this month, and could look to a reunion with the Dutchman before the window closes on 31st January.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Villa face competition in the form of Everton for Danjuma’s signature, whilst Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest in taking back their former winger on loan for the remainder of the season.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has recently told GiveMeSport that the West Midlands giants are looking at signing striker Nicolas Jackson from the same club, as Emery looks to bring in some of his former players in a bid to build his squad at Villa Park.

And Crook believes that following Danjuma’s success in Spain, a move to Villa makes a lot of sense this month.

What has Crook said about Aston Villa and Danjuma?

Crook told GiveMeSport: “There's the obvious connection with Danjuma. He did so well in Spain, so that makes a lot of sense.”

Would Danjuma be a good signing for Villa?

Danjuma – who has been previously dubbed as “exceptional” by pundit Clinton Morrison – has enjoyed a successful spell at Villarreal since his £22m from Bournemouth in the summer of 2021.

The six-cap Netherlands international has hit the back of the net 22 times and provided four assists in 51 appearances during his time at the Estadio de la Cerámica as per Transfermarkt, suggesting that he could be a regular provider of goals for Emery’s side.

However, an underwhelming WhoScored rating of 6.23 for his displays in La Liga this season could potentially show that he needs a fresh start, and a move to the Premier League could be the ideal place to rekindle the form he showed during the 2021/22 campaign.

The Dutchman compares reasonably to his positional peers, ranking in the top 22% of forwards across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for dribbles completed per 90 minutes (1.14) over the last 365 days, according to FBref.

Therefore, a reunion with Emery at Villa may just be the best move for both parties, as Danjuma looks to prove himself in the Premier League.
