Chelsea are 'well informed' on the situation of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram as they wait to see if his current employers would be 'open' to selling him this month, Fabrizio Romano has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The Frenchman is believed to earn £82,000 per week at BORUSSIA-PARK and is free to talk to other clubs over a pre-contract agreement, with his deal set to expire this summer.

Chelsea Transfer News - Marcus Thuram

Recently, journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported on his website that Chelsea are 'working' on a deal to bring the 25-year-old to Stamford Bridge, though would face competition from other London clubs.

The Blues are said to be the frontrunners for his signature, having submitted a 'tempting offer' to try and lure the forward to West London. Transfermarkt shows that Thuram has been in fine form this season, racking up 13 goals and four assists in 17 appearances for Gladbach in all competitions.

Talks are at an 'advanced' stage, according to Di Marzio; however, Football London cites that Borussia Monchengladbach manager Daniel Farke has said that he is 'very sure' Thuram will see out the second half of the season at the Bundesliga outfit, potentially throwing a spanner in the works.

Chelsea have enjoyed a busy January transfer window under Graham Potter so far, having already signed Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Andrey Santos and David Datro Fofana.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Marcus Thuram?

Now, Romano has stated that Chelsea are keeping 'informed' of Thuram's situation at present, while has also said that he could be 'one of the options' Potter could turn to in an attempt to beef up his frontline.

Romano told GMS: "What Chelsea are doing is to be informed on the situation with Gladbach in case they will open up to let him go in January. What kind of conditions, what the player wants to do because he's available as a free agent and so he can pick his favourite club.

"Chelsea are well informed on the situation. He could be one of the options."

Would Marcus Thuram be a good signing for Chelsea?

Chelsea have a lot of offensive options, though do lack a focal point in the final third with predatory instincts. Kai Havertz has been used as an auxiliary striker across the season, faring decently with five goals from 12 matches in the Premier League when utilised as a centre-forward, as per Transfermarkt.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is out of favour at the Blues, while new signing David Datro Fofana is only 20 and is expected to be more of a long-term project. In light of this, bringing in Thuram would immediately give Chelsea a reliable source of goals and provide plenty of trouble for opposition backlines.

WhoScored notes that the France international has been a dangerous outlet for Borussia Monchengladbach in 2022/23, recording an average of 3.7 shots per game in the Bundesliga.

He has also gained a match rating of 7.45/10 for his performances in the German top-flight this campaign, showing how consistent he can be when he is prioritised as a key player and given a platform to shine.

With Chelsea seeking to revive their fortunes after a poor few months under Potter, Thuram could be a shining light if a deal to take him to Stamford Bridge materialises.
