Newcastle United selling Allan Saint-Maximin this month is a possibility if the right offer came in, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

And if that does happen, the Sky Sports reporter thinks the Magpies would consider bringing in a replacement for the Frenchman.

Newcastle transfer news - Allan Saint-Maximin

If Newcastle do decide to listen to the right offers for Saint-Maximin this month, one club who could register an interest in him is Tottenham.

According to football.london's Alasdair Gold, their director of football Fabio Paratici is a "big fan" of the winger.

Saint-Maximin has been on the periphery of late, reduced to a bit-part role following his return from injury.

In total, he has made just four starts in the Premier League this season, as per Transfermarkt.

What has Keith Downie said about Allan Saint-Maximin and Newcastle?

Downie is not ruling out Saint-Maximin leaving Newcastle during this transfer window, provided they received an acceptable bid for the player.

Speaking to GMS, the Sky Sports reporter said: "If Saint-Maximin goes - and I think there's a possibility of that [for the right money] - and they manage to get some money for him, I think they could go out and buy someone."

Should Newcastle sell Allan Saint-Maximin this month?

It would not be wise to. They have obviously done well without having him as a permanent fixture in their side this season, with the Magpies currently sitting in the top four.

However, it is a long campaign, and if Newcastle want to remain where they are, then keeping a player of Saint-Maximin's quality around would be a smart move.

While he may not be starting week in, week out right now, the 25-year-old still has something to offer, even if it is from off the bench.

This season, Saint-Maximin has still averaged the most dribbles per game in his squad (1.8), according to WhoScored. And it was the same theme last term after he recorded a much more impressive average of 4.3.

There is probably not a better dribbler in the Premier League than the former Nice star, who signed for Newcastle in a deal worth up to £20m back in 2019, as reported by Sky Sports.

It is not hard, then, to understand why beIN SPORTS' Andy Kerr once described him as an "exceptional footballer".

Ultimately, while Saint-Maximin may not be a starter under Eddie Howe at St James' Park at this moment in time, he has the ability to win back a first-team spot and can still bring a lot to the pitch. Therefore, Newcastle should look to keep hold of him for a bit longer.
