Newcastle United will have to make a "monster offer" if they want to sign Leicester City star James Maddison this month, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

However, despite the Magpies' riches, Taylor does not think it will be easy because of financial fair play.

Newcastle transfer news - James Maddison

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GMS that Maddison is still a main target for Newcastle.

The Leicester attacker was someone the St James' Park outfit chased during the summer, with multiple outlets, including The Guardian, claiming that they had two bids rejected for the player.

According to the newspaper, the Foxes value the 26-year-old at £60m, which does not come as too much of a shock.

He has been arguably the most important member of Leicester's squad this season, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 13 Premier League appearances, as per Transfermarkt.

What has Ryan Taylor said about James Maddison and Newcastle?

Taylor says Leicester will not sell Maddison to Newcastle unless huge money is brought to the negotiating table.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Express journalist said: "It's clear Maddison has been a target in the past few months, but at the same time it's going to cost a lot of money and Newcastle do need to comply with FFP. I don't envisage Leicester selling unless there's a monster offer."

Will Leicester sell James Maddison this month?

There are now only a couple of weeks left in the transfer window, so you suspect that Leicester are going to make it even more difficult for Maddison to leave the closer we get to deadline day.

As already mentioned, he has probably been their best player this season. It is going to be almost impossible to replace him, especially if the Foxes leave it late.

The England international has been their main source of creativity. As well as registering four assists in the Premier League, he is also completing 2.4 key passes per game, which is the most in his squad, according to WhoScored.

Speaking after his Three Lions World Cup call-up, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said (via Eurosport): "His level of consistency, his work ethic and his talent has swung the decision for him.

"He’s a fantastic talent and one of the best players in the Premier League."

If Newcastle and Eddie Howe want to sign Maddison this month, then they better get a move on, as it is hard to imagine Leicester selling such a key member of their squad so late in the window.
