Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram would be a "great fit" for Aston Villa, says Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor.

Taylor has told GiveMeSport that he had heard that the Villans were interested in the 25-year-old but nothing is yet to materialise.

Aston Villa transfer news - Marcus Thuram

Last month, transfer insider Dean Jones said to GMS that Villa could be one club who end up in a good position to sign Thuram if Europe's elite decide not to pursue the player.

The above, however, looks unlikely. According to Gianlucadimarzio.com, Chelsea are trying to bring the Frenchman to Stamford Bridge.

The website states that the Blues have made Thuram a "tempting offer" and he is contemplating leaving Gladbach now as opposed to in the summer when his contract runs out.

Thuram was part of the France squad that made it to the World Cup final in December and came on as a substitute in that incredible match against winners Argentina.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Marcus Thuram and Aston Villa?

Taylor says he was told that Villa had interest in Thuram and thinks he would be a good signing for Unai Emery's side.

Speaking to GMS, the Daily Express journalist said: "I was actually told there was interest in Marcus Thuram a couple months ago, but weirdly, nothing seems to have come of that. So I don't know if I was fed rubbish or if there's just no interest in Thuram at this stage.

"I do think he would be a player that could be really good for Villa, a great fit. Whether he'd be interested in joining is another question altogether."

Do Aston Villa have a chance of signing Marcus Thuram?

It is not hard to see why Villa would want Thuram. He is a France international who has been in great form this season.

In his first 15 appearances in the Bundesliga, he scored 10 goals, as per Transfermarkt.

Thuram, who is valued at around £28m by the same website, is also a physical presence. At 6 ft 4, he could be perfect for the Premier League.

There is more to him than his stature, though, with Wolfsburg's sporting director Marcel Schafer describing him as a "world-class striker" overall.

"Thuram is a world-class striker. You have to say it like that," Schafer was quoted as saying by Kicker.

With Chelsea making a real push to sign Thuram this month, however, it seems unlikely that he will end up at Villa Park.
