Deontay Wilder's trainer Malik Scott has stated that he would be open to training Lawrence Okolie on a full-time basis.

The WBO cruiserweight world champion is currently preparing for a spring return to the ring.

Okolie, 30, will defend his WBO cruiserweight title against David Light in London on March 11.

The former Olympian faces fellow undefeated boxer Light in a few weeks' time in the English capital.

Okolie has relocated from the UK to the Middle East following an amicable split with his former coach Shane McGuigan.

It is understood that the pair are still on good terms despite parting ways earlier this year.

Now officially coach-less, Okolie was recently seen training with Scott in Dubai a few months ago - the man who has helped Wilder get his career back on track.

And according to Wilder's head coach Scott, there is every chance that they could work together again in the future.

Of course, there's also the added element that Okolie used to be managed by Anthony Joshua - a fact which isn't entirely lost on Scott, 42.

Speaking exclusively to GIVEMESPORT.com, Scott said: "I spoke to Lawrence a few weeks ago actually.

"I held the pads for him a while back. We had a good connection. There was a lot of positive energy there.

"He knows where I am if he wants to give me a call. He's actually very similar to Deontay in a lot of ways. They're both very long, they're both very awkward, they're both blessed with freakish power.

"Lawrence is a very smart guy. He knows what he is doing. I was very impressed with his attitude.

"I think we could do great things together. Ultimately though it's his choice. I think he's got a few people out there with him at the moment.

"But my door is open for him if he needs me. I like it out there. I plan on going back there soon.

"Obviously he is no longer with AJ any more so that makes for a good story. Who knows, maybe one day they could fight each other in the future. Maybe that'll happen some day."
