Manchester United’s owners, the Glazers, are hoping for a full sale of the club and sources expect “significant progress” to be made by April or May at Old Trafford, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Red Devils have been up for sale since November of last year as head coach Erik ten Hag looks for backing in the January transfer window.

Man Utd news – Takeover

As per The Times, CEO of INEOS and one of Britain’s richest men in Sir Jim Ratcliffe has put himself forward as the next potential owner of Manchester United, who has confirmed to the same outlet that he is now in the process of sealing a takeover of the Premier League outfit.

The same publication says that Ratcliffe will have to pay substantially more than the £4billion Todd Boehly spent on purchasing Chelsea last year, with a figure of around £5billion expected.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport earlier this month that the process of selling the Old Trafford club was “moving forward” ahead of what could prove to be a critical January transfer market for ten Hag and his squad.

And now the journalist believes that the club’s potential sale is the reason there has been minimal transfer business and progress could be made in three to four months.

What has Jacobs said about Man Utd?

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “The expectation from sources is that if it proves to be a full takeover, which is what the Glazers have always leaned towards, then by April or May, significant progress may well have been made.

“That informs you why Manchester United are having a quiet January transfer window so far.”

What next for Man Utd?

Supporters will be delighted to hear that someone with the wealth of Sir Jim Ratcliffe is prepared to make a play to try and buy their club, but the United faithful will be hoping that ten Hag is given some backing on the pitch in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

The Red Devils have already secured the loan signings of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland and Burnley striker Wout Weghorst but will be hoping to further bolster the Dutchman’s squad as they look to compete both domestically and in Europe during the second half of the campaign.

United are also intent on tying two of their key players down to new long-term deals at Old Trafford, with the club in negotiations to extend the deals of both England forward Marcus Rashford and Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea.

In the short-term, the Premier League outfit are just looking towards a strong finish to their season, but in the long run, there could be many significant changes about to take place at Old Trafford.
