Manchester United have a "long-standing interest" in Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to Old Trafford following Donny van de Beek's injury, which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Man United transfer news - Youri Tielemans

According to journalist Thomas Alencar, United are yet to make an approach for Tielemans but are interested in signing him this month.

The Red Devils are not the only club who could launch a bid for the Belgian, though, with Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie recently telling GMS that he would be surprised if Newcastle United did not go after him.

Tielemans looks like an attainable midfielder for Premier League sides, as his contract is up in the summer.

It means Leicester may be forced to sell him if a good offer arrives before the end of January.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Youri Tielemans and Man United?

Jacobs says United have had Tielemans on their radar for a while.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: "We know that Manchester United have had a long-standing interest in Youri Tielemans, but Tielemans was not that sold at a point when he thought that Arsenal were also very seriously at the table and may move a bit quicker.

"Now Manchester United are flying on the football field, it will be interesting to see whether that changes anything in Tielemans' perception of Manchester United."

Can Man United convince Youri Tielemans to move to Old Trafford?

While Tielemans may have had some doubts in the past, it is hard to imagine him turning United down now.

The Red Devils are heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag, currently finding themselves in the top four.

From their perspective, you can also see why they would want Tielemans, who cost Leicester £40m when he joined from AS Monaco permanently back in 2019, as reported by The Guardian.

He is an experienced Premier League midfielder who is very good on the ball. For example, in Leicester's penultimate top-flight game before the World Cup, a 2-0 win against Everton, the Belgium international made 62 accurate passes on the day. Only team-mate Wout Faes (64) managed to make more (via WhoScored).

Described as a "phenomenal player" by former Republic of Ireland international David Meyler, Tielemans could be a terrific addition to United's squad this month.
