Chelsea boss Graham Potter 'would like' to seal a Stamford Bridge reunion with Moises Caicedo and there is 'very concrete' interest in the Brighton & Hove Albion star, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market, with Mykhailo Mudryk being the latest acquisition in a £88.5million deal, but further reinforcements could be drafted in ahead of the deadline.

Chelsea transfer news - Moises Caicedo

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Chelsea could test Brighton's resolve by launching an initial approach for Caicedo this week.

It is understood that the Blues are actively exploring the possibility of striking a winter deal and are willing to pay up to £65million, but the Ecuador international's current employers would only contemplate sanctioning his departure for upwards of £75million.

Potter has prioritised adding a new midfielder to his squad and a move is being lined up for Caicedo after Chelsea have been unable to sign Benfica talisman Enzo Fernandez.

But Brighton are in a strong negotiating position as the 21-year-old's £15,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025.

Caicedo has remained a key man for the Seagulls since Potter was replaced by Roberto De Zerbi in the dugout, making 20 appearances this season.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Caicedo?

Jacobs understands that Potter is keen to be reunited with Caicedo ahead of the January transfer window slamming shut.

The journalist is aware that Chelsea are in the hunt for a new midfield option and the South American is on a shortlist of targets.

When asked whether a move for Caicedo is a possibility, Jacobs told GiveMeSport: "This is something that Graham Potter would like. He's obviously a big fan of the player and he has worked with him before.

"Chelsea are still keen to bring in a midfielder before the window shuts, so the Caicedo interest is very concrete."

Would Caicedo be interested in joining Chelsea?

Caicedo has previously admitted that he would find it difficult to turn down a move as, in an interview with Ole, he claimed the west Londoners are 'one of the best teams in the world and no-one would refuse a proposal from Chelsea'.

That is a positive sign for the Blues and the fact Potter is at the helm could also be used to their advantage as it was the current Stamford Bridge chief who brought the central midfielder to English football when a £4.5million deal was struck with Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle in 2021.

Potter selected Caicedo 16 times while they worked together at Brighton and he would be confident of taking his game to the next level.

Although Liverpool could make life difficult as Chelsea look to get a deal over the line, it is thought that his price tag is prohibitive for the Anfield giants, potentially opening the door for the capital club's co-owner Todd Boehly to pounce.
