Aston Villa could explore a move for Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma in what remains of the January transfer window, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

Taylor is unsure if the Midlands outfit are interested in the 25-year-old, though, despite the continued speculation surrounding his future but believes the links make sense due to Unai Emery.

Aston Villa transfer news – Danjuma

Transfer insider Dean Jones has previously informed GMS that Danjuma is Villa’s ‘first-choice’ target this winter as they look to bolster their attacking options out wide.

And The Mirror has recently backed up those claims, stating that Emery is eager to be reunited with the Netherlands international and his Villarreal teammate Nicolas Jackson at Villa Park.

However, the Midlands outfit could be set to face stiff competition from fellow Premier League side Bournemouth, who sold Danjuma to Villarreal in a £21.3 million deal back in 2021.

The versatile attacker fired the Cherries back to the Premier League with his 17 strikes and seven assists in 35 Championship appearances throughout 2020/21 before elevating his game to new heights last term.

Danjuma registered 16 goals and four assists in 34 outings for Villarreal as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League under Emery.

What has Taylor said about Danjuma?

Emery has already pulled off his first acquisition as Villa manager, bringing in left-back Alex Moreno in a £13.3 million deal from Real Betis.

And Taylor has disclosed that he reckons ‘hypothetically’ Danjuma is a player who could be on the Villans’ radar even though he’s been ‘shot down’ when making enquiries over their reported interest.

He said: “I don't think there has been interest from Villa, whenever I've asked a question, it's been shot down, but obviously, we know how good Danjuma was under Emery last year at Villarreal. So, hypothetically, that's an avenue that could be explored.”

Do Villa need Danjuma?

Emery is said to be keen to address Villa’s lack of width after wingers Anwar El Ghazi, Trezeguet and Bertrand Traore were all moved on under predecessor Steven Gerrard.

Meanwhile, the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Leon Bailey and Emi Buendia have been far from prolific in the first half of the season.

The trio have racked up just eight goals and three assists between them from out wide, highlighting why Emery is believed to be eager to address that area of the pitch.
