Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is 'fighting' for Fenway Sports Group to stump up the cash to lure Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham to Anfield, Bild journalist Christian Falk has told GiveMeSport.

Having already splashed out on Cody Gakpo by parting with £44million, the Reds could draft in further fresh faces ahead of the January transfer window slamming shut.

Liverpool transfer news - Jude Bellingham

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are preparing a double swoop for Bellingham and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes in the summer.

The report suggests the Dortmund talisman is Klopp's top target, but he is facing stiff competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City as he looks to get a deal over the line.

It is understood the Bundesliga giants will only sanction Bellingham's departure for a fee of more than £100million, while the package would also have to include some hefty add-ons.

Although meeting that figure would result in Liverpool having to shatter their transfer record, the Merseyside outfit are focused on winning the race for the England international's signature.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth recently told GiveMeSport that Bellingham could push to secure a move to Anfield.

What has Christian Falk said about Bellingham?

Falk understands that Klopp is urging the Liverpool hierarchy to provide him with the funds needed to persuade Dortmund into selling Bellingham.

But the Bundesliga insider, who has a transfer column for CaughtOffside, believes the Reds could find it difficult to reach an agreement if Real Madrid are willing to part with a more significant fee.

Falk told GiveMeSport: "Jurgen Klopp is fighting in his club for the owners to give him the money for Bellingham.

"He would like to have him in his team, but they have to be careful because Real Madrid are also a very nice club and they were early to the table.

"If they pay the amount and Dortmund says 'they pay more than Liverpool', then Liverpool would have a problem."

Could Liverpool sign Bellingham this month?

It appears unlikely as, in an interview with German media outlet Kicker, Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has revealed no offers have arrived for Bellingham during the January transfer window.

The 19-year-old's current employers are also in a strong negotiating position as his £49,000-per-week contract is not due to expire until the summer of 2025, which will make it even more difficult for Liverpool to reach a speedy agreement.

However, if there is a glimmer of hope that Bellingham could head to Liverpool before the end of the month, they should not hesitate as he has already chalked up 12 goal contributions in 22 appearances this season.

Additionally, the central midfielder earned praise during the World Cup, with pundit Roy Keane claiming he is 'going to be a superstar'.

While a summer move for Bellingham appears to be more of a possibility, Liverpool should still continue keeping tabs on his situation at Dortmund ahead of potentially looking to lodge a winter bid.
