West Ham United are 'chasing' a deal to bring in Lorient striker Terem Moffi in a bid to solve their goalscoring woes, transfer insider Dean Jones has informed GiveMeSport.

The Hammers have been linked with several players this window, with manager David Moyes looking to fend off the threat of relegation from the Premier League this season.

West Ham Transfer News - Terem Moffi

Lately, Sky Sports had reported that West Ham submitted a bid worth up to £25 million for Lorient striker Moffi, which is said to be a £20 million initial payment, with the other £5 million set to be provided in instalments.

Since then, talkSPORT has claimed that his current employers could reject the offer for his services and could demand up to £30 million to part ways with the 23-year-old ace.

The Hammers have been warned they may lose out in a battle for Moffi altogether, as Lorient may prefer to sell the forward to Ligue 1 rivals Nice. In 2022/23, the Nigeria international has been in some excellent form, bagging 12 goals in 18 appearances for Les Merlus, as per Transfermarkt.

Premier League side Southampton have also been keeping an eye on Moffi, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook; however, seem less likely than West Ham to win the race due to the finances involved in a potential deal.

What has Dean Jones said about Terem Moffi?

Transfer insider Jones has shed light on the latest news involving Moffi, stating that both West Ham and relegation rivals Southampton are definitely 'interested' in luring the Lorient man to the Premier League in January.

Jones told GMS: "Yeah, I think that to be honest, both clubs are obviously in need of goals at the moment and they're both chasing him; there's no doubt that they are both interested in this deal.

"He's got good data results and I think the problem is figuring out how well he will actually adapt to the pressure of delivering big goals in the Premier League at a moment when there's going to be loads of pressure to do that."

Would Terem Moffi be a good signing for West Ham?

West Ham is in the midst of a relegation fight at the moment, with manager Moyes reportedly being in danger of losing his job if the Hammers fall to defeat against Everton this weekend, according to The Telegraph.

Due to their perilous position, West Ham would undoubtedly benefit from having an attacking option such as Moffi to turn to at the London Stadium. WhoScored details that the hitman has had around 1.9 shots per match across this term, making him a problematic presence for Ligue 1 backlines to deal with.

Furthermore, Moffi's consistent performances have shown why Premier League sides have faith he can be a regular attacking force, with the 23-year-old claiming an average match rating of 7.01/10 in the French top flight.

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that West Ham is in a period of desperation currently on the pitch. Moffi could help to alleviate some of the negative feelings around the club and potentially get their season back on track if given a fighting opportunity.
