Everton are 'following' the situation of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele as the Toffees look to strengthen their forward line this month, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has informed GiveMeSport.

Frank Lampard is seemingly seeking additions to bolster his squad in their fight for Premier League survival and the 26-year-old has emerged as a serious potential transfer reinforcement at Goodison Park.

What's the latest transfer news involving Moussa Dembele?

Recently, The Daily Mail reported that Everton had been offered the chance to sign Dembele from Lyon in their quest to recruit a striker.

The former Celtic man is out of contract at the French giants at the end of the season, where he earns around £52,000 per week, suggesting he can be picked up at a discount this month.

Everton have been contacted about their potential interest in taking Dembele to Merseyside. However, Lyon will look to recoup at least some of the £20m fee they paid for him back in 2018.

Alexandre Lacazette has primarily been utilised as the main centre-forward at the Groupama Stadium this term, reducing Dembele to being a sporadic figure for his current employers in 2022/23.

The Toffees have also spoken to Serie A side Atalanta about the availability of their striker Duvan Zapata, who has also attracted attention from West Ham United and Nottingham Forest.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Moussa Dembele?

Transfer guru Romano has claimed that Everton are indeed 'following' Dembele currently; nevertheless, he also stated that any deal would be difficult to complete.

Romano told GMS: "Moussa Dembele is one of the players they are following, it's true. But at the moment, it's not an easy one."

Would Moussa Dembele be a good addition for Everton?

Given their injury problems and sheer lack of numbers in attack, Dembele could be an exciting option at Goodison Park that would bring plenty of footballing pedigree to the table if a move was to be finalised.

Admittedly, his statistics in 2022/23 don't make for brilliant reading, with Transfermarkt detailing that he has scored just twice from 15 appearances across all competitions.

However, his time on the whole at Lyon would have to be deemed as a success, with Dembele notching 69 goals and 19 assists from 159 encounters.

North of the border, Celtic fans also have incredibly fond memories of the 26-year-old, who produced some fantastic moments for the club, including a hat-trick against Rangers in the Scottish top flight and a double against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Dembele may not have hit the heights he expected of himself this campaign, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he is capable of delivering moments of brilliance when prioritised as a critical player.

Moving back to the United Kingdom may reignite Dembele's goalscoring spark, something that Everton desperately need if they are to avoid being relegated from the Premier League for the first time in their history.
