Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita could leave Anfield at the end of the season, Fabrizio Romano has informed GiveMeSport.

The 27-year-old's contract expires in the summer, and Romano says he is not close to signing a new one.

Liverpool contract news - Naby Keita

According to Football Insider, Liverpool were in talks with Keita over a new deal.

The outlet states that the Merseyside club were reluctant to lose the Guinean on a free transfer but have now decided to let him go after contract discussions collapsed.

Liverpool signed Keita from RB Leipzig in a deal worth just under £53m, as reported by Sky Sports.

He is currently earning £130,000 a week at Anfield, claims Salary Sport.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Naby Keita and Liverpool?

Romano has told GMS that there is now a strong possibility that Keita leaves Liverpool in the summer.

On the midfielder's future, the transfer expert said: "I think there are chances for him to leave on a free. From what I'm told, at the moment, there is nothing advanced between Liverpool and Naby Keita. So let's see if Liverpool will maybe change their mind. That's happened with [N'Golo] Kante and Chelsea.

"Kante and Chelsea was really complicated in November and December and now they're back to discussing a new deal, so let's see if Liverpool will do something like that."

Who could replace Naby Keita at Liverpool?

Whether Keita remains at Liverpool or not, the Reds are likely to sign at least one new midfielder in the next transfer window.

BILD journalist Christian Falk recently told GMS that Anfield will be Jude Bellingham's next destination if the Borussia Dortmund star does not base his decision on which club to join this summer on money.

There has also been a lot of talk about Liverpool going back in for Wolves' Matheus Nunes.

According to The Telegraph, they were close to signing the Portugal international before his recent move to Molineux and are now exploring a deal to buy him from their Premier League rivals.

Regarding Keita, he is certainly a good player. Speaking about the Guinea international back in 2020, his team-mate Virgil van Dijk told Liverpool's official club website: "I think he is world-class, if I’m absolutely honest.

"I see all the moments when he has the ball, the smart moves, the smart intelligence. It’s just incredible to see."

However, it now looks like he will leave Anfield, while the likes of Bellingham and Nunes could be arriving.
