Edge made a stunning WWE return to in-ring action after nine years away during the 2020 Royal Rumble.

The Rated R Superstar had been forced into retirement after WrestleMania 27 in 2011 due to several neck injuries throughout his career. The 11-time World Champion was never expected to compete again, let alone at the highest level.

He shocked the world when he came out as the 21st entrant, in what is one of WWE’s best returns and feelgood moments ever.

Edge’s career was considered done and dusted

There was little suggestion, anticipation or hope that the WWE Hall of Famer would ever make it back into the ring despite spearing Elias at Summerslam months prior. Triple fusion neck surgery is no joke and it was long accepted that Edge’s career was over.

After doing more physical activities over the years following surgery, Edge felt his neck was in a far better place than before. After numerous check-ups with some of the very best doctors across the US, Edge was cleared for action by the and WWE’s own medics.

Precious few knew Edge was coming back, outside of his wife Beth Phoenix and FTR (then The Revival), who put him through his paces as he readied himself for his grand return.

The 2020 Royal Rumble was that moment. When the countdown hit 0 signalling the arrival of entrant No.21, little did anyone know what was about to happen.

The sound of the iconic “You think you know me” sent the Houston crowd into a frenzy not seen in years. It was a mix of complete shock and joy and it was truly epic to witness.

Edge’s own face tells a story

While the fans were in absolute shock, seemingly so was Edge. Just look at his face when it dawns on him what is transpiring. Nine years of pent-up frustration and sadness was let out all in that moment.

While Edge returned, the question was could he still go? He answered that instantly, hitting spears on Dolph Ziggler and Karl Anderson. It was confirmation that the Rated R Superstar was back.

He made it to the final three, being eliminated by Roman Reigns much to the anger of the live crowd. Drew McIntyre was the eventual winner in what must be one of the best Rumbles in recent times.

Comments left on the thread answer the question left on the caption, with some agreeing and others considering the likes of John Cena and Triple H as better WWE returns.
