Chelsea will now target a centre-forward in the summer window, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed to GIVEMESPORT.

It comes less than two years since Romelu Lukaku joined Stamford Bridge from Inter Milan in a record-breaking £97.5 million move.

Chelsea transfer news

Since acquiring Chelsea as part of a £4.25 billion deal last season, Todd Boehly hasn't wasted any time in making his mark on English football.

Having broken the record for the most spent by one club in any transfer window last summer, splurging an estimated £274 million on nine players, the relentless spending has continued into the January window.

Mykhailo Mudryk and Joao Felix are just two of the five new signings Chelsea have made this month, taking their total spend for the season well over €400 million.

While they may represent eye-watering figures, it doesn't look as if Boehly and Co. are showing any signs of letting up, with attention already switching towards their potential summer plans.

Despite spending close to half a billion pounds in just six months since arriving in England, there are suggestions Chelsea are lining up another big summer window, with one position set to be at the top of their shopping list.

What has Romano said about Chelsea's summer plans?

Typically busy in the transfer window, Romano told GMS in an interview he doesn't expect that to change at Chelsea next summer.

When quizzed about Chelsea's transfer plans, Romano revealed: "I think they will go for a striker.

"It’s their plan to go for a traditional striker and someone who can bring them goals, after a complicated summer of striker signings last year. So I think this summer Chelsea will move for a striker.”

Which strikers might Chelsea sign in the summer?

One name that has been linked with a Stamford Bridge switch is Marcus Thuram - the out-of-contract Borussia Mönchengladbach forward.

Into the final six months of his deal at BORUSSIA-PARK, Thuram is rumoured to be on Chelsea's radar and the Blues could still yet move for the 25-year-old this month.

However, should they decide to wait until the summer, there is every chance Chelsea could sign him on a free transfer, with suggestions he is willing to run his contract down to secure a move.

And then there's Tottenham Hotspur legend Harry Kane, who was linked with a remarkable switch to Stamford Bridge in 2021, before Manchester City emerged as the front-runner for the England captain.

According to Telegraph journalist Matt Law, Chelsea made an attempt to sign Kane in 2021, when it looked like he was destined to leave north London (London is Blue via Chelsea Chronicle).

While a switch from Spurs to Chelsea remains unlikely, given the bad blood between the two sides, Boehly has already demonstrated his unwillingness to do things conventionally, with a move for Kane not beyond the realms of possibility.
