Liverpool midfielders Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to leave Jürgen Klopp’s side at Anfield for free in the summer, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The duo are both out of contract at the end of the season and an extension to their deals is not currently expected at the time of writing.

Liverpool contract news – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keïta

According to the Daily Mail, Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing a dilemma over whether he should leave Anfield this month or wait until he becomes a free agent in the summer.

The same publication suggests that there are likely to be several top-flight clubs lining up for his signature at the expiry of his deal with the Reds, but the midfielder may be wary of the free market becoming flooded come the next transfer window.

Meanwhile, Calciomercatoweb has reported that Liverpool are preparing to offer up Keïta in a swap deal with Inter Milan for the services of Croatia midfielder Marcelo Brozović.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GiveMeSport last month that the future of the 46-cap Guinea international was something to look out for at Anfield this month.

But Romano is aware that as things currently stand, both Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keïta are set to leave Liverpool as free agents come the end of the season.

What has Romano said about Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keïta's future at Liverpool

Romano told GiveMeSport: “As of today, the expectation is for Naby Keïta to leave on a free and that’s the same for Oxlade-Chamberlain as well.”

Will Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keïta be big losses for Liverpool?

Oxlade-Chamberlain, who earns £125k-per-week according to Salary Sport, has struggled for regular game time over the past few seasons with the Reds, having played in just 19% of available Premier League minutes this time around, as per Transfermarkt.

Meanwhile, Keïta has failed to have the impact expected upon his signing at Anfield since his £48m arrival in July 2018 with the £130k-per-week earner making 125 appearances in four and a half years, hitting the back of the net 11 times whilst providing seven assists, according to the same stats provider.

With the duo both likely to leave the club by the end of the season, Liverpool will be enabled to chase their desired midfield targets ahead of the 2023/24 season in the summer, with Jude Bellingham and Matheus Nunes seemingly being at the top of their list.

Therefore, it seems unlikely that one of Oxlade-Chamberlain or Keïta has a future at Anfield beyond May and both players will be pre-planning their next move in the market.
