Newcastle United could look to add Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech to Eddie Howe’s squad at St. James’ Park following the Blues’ signing of Noni Madueke, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The 29-year-old has struggled for regular game time for the Stamford Bridge outfit this season.

Newcastle transfer news – Hakim Ziyech

Chelsea have agreed on a £29m deal with PSV to sign Madueke from the Eredivisie giants this month, leaving Graham Potter with a plethora of wide options at his disposal at the time of writing.

According to 90min, Newcastle are considering a move for several attacking options this month, with Ziyech being one of the names on the transfer shortlist.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph has reported that the Magpies are preparing a potential swoop for the Chelsea trio of Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ziyech, suggesting that there could be more than one deal that takes place between the two clubs before the window is out.

Journalist Simon Phillips has recently revealed to GiveMeSport that the 50-cap Morocco international is likely to push for a move away from Stamford Bridge this month.

And Jones believes that Newcastle are “primed” to make a loan offer to Chelsea for Ziyech’s services.

What has Jones said about Newcastle and Ziyech?

Jones told GiveMeSport: “The Madueke deal will probably trigger the exit of Hakim Ziyech, so that’s the next situation to look out for. Newcastle are primed with an offer to take him on loan.”

Would Ziyech be a good signing for Newcastle?

Ziyech – who was once dubbed a “genius” by journalist Nizaar Kinsella – has failed to impress Potter this season after having provided just one assist in 14 appearances, as per Transfermarkt, but may feel that he will get more opportunities under Howe at Newcastle.

A below-par WhoScored rating of 6.58 for the £100k-per-week earner’s displays in the Premier League this campaign ranks the World Cup semi-finalist as Chelsea’s 14th-best performer, indicating that a move to Tyneside may be required to revitalise his career.

However, the former Ajax man does compare favourably to his positional peers in some aspects of his game, as shown by the fact he ranks in the top 4% of attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for passes attempted (57.32), top 6% for progressive passes (4.93) and top 7% for tackles made per 90 minutes (2.03) over the last 365 days, as per FBref.

Therefore, it’s clear that Ziyech has not quite hit his stride this season but still has plenty to offer in a side where he’ll be given regular game time, suggesting that a loan move to Newcastle could be the ideal switch for the Moroccan star.
