West Ham United are trying to sign striker Terem Moffi in addition to Danny Ings as they aim to add firepower to their attack, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Hammers have surprisingly found themselves in a relegation battle despite the signing of Italy international striker Gianluca Scamacca in the summer, and now the former Sassuolo forward has reportedly picked up an injury to further their woes.

West Ham transfer news

Danny Ings has now completed his move from Aston Villa for around £12m which could rise to £15m, and West Ham now have three centre-forwards on their books.

However, Michail Antonio has been linked with a move away, and Moffi could come in as a direct replacement for the 32-year-old with West Ham already tabling a £25m bid.

The Lorient forward has scored 12 times in 18 Ligue 1 games this season, and at 1.88m tall he would bring a strong physical presence as well as clinical finishing.

David Moyes' side have won just four of their first 19 matches this season, and given their participation in the Europa Conference League, they will have a demanding schedule between now and the end of the season in their bid for survival.

What has Dean Jones said about West Ham and Moffi?

Jones expressed his surprise at the signing of Ings, but revealed that the club are targeting both forwards as they seek to tackle their goalscoring problems, having scored just 15 goals in 19 games prior to this weekend.

"They've been trying to get both. They've got issues with scoring goals and Scamacca's injury has led them to accelerate. In terms of the Danny Ings signing, I think that's quite a surprising one to be honest," he told GiveMeSport.

Where will all these strikers play?

If Scamacca has a long-term injury then the depth will be necessary, but if all four forwards remain in the squad, then it might be an indication that Moyes may shift his formation and play with two strikers.

West Ham have typically operated with one centre-forward with Jarrod Bowen and either Said Benrahma or Pablo Fornals making up the front three, but as his side are now in the drop zone, he may refresh the team with a different approach.

Ings may have been targeted as a reliable Premier League-proven goalscorer, which will be especially useful if Antonio leaves. Scamaccca has been inconsistent since his arrival and Moffi may take time to settle.

At 23, Moffi is a signing with one eye on the future, but if he can hit the ground running and continue his goalscoring form, then he will prove to be a very useful addition.
