Manchester United are 'keeping an eye on the market' and could look to tempt Leicester City star Youri Tielemans to Old Trafford, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

A 3-2 defeat to Arsenal resulted in the Red Devils falling 11 points adrift of the Premier League leaders, but boss Erik ten Hag could strengthen his squad ahead of the January deadline.

Man United transfer news - Youri Tielemans

According to respected journalist Thomas Alencar, Manchester United are showing an interest in Tielemans during the final stages of the transfer window.

He suggests the Red Devils have set their sights on the Belgium international after being tracked by a team of scouts and Donny van de Beek's season-ending knee injury has resulted in a January move becoming a possibility.

CBS reporter Ben Jacobs recently told GiveMeSport that Manchester United are long-term admirers of Tielemans, although he was not keen on completing a switch to Old Trafford last summer.

But, in a blow for ten Hag and fellow suitors Arsenal, it has emerged that the central midfielder would rather see out the remainder of his Leicester contract instead of sealing a move this month.

Tielemans has entered the final six months of his deal, which is worth £120,000-per-week, at the King Power Stadium.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Tielemans?

Romano understands that Manchester United are surveying the market before potentially looking to test Leicester's resolve with a bid for Tielemans.

The reliable journalist believes ten Hag is working hard to identify targets ahead of the fast-approaching transfer deadline.

When asked about the links to Tielemans, Romano told GiveMeSport: "They're keeping an eye on the market.

"I think it is normal if there is something interesting that could attract the manager."

Would Tielemans be a good signing for Man United?

According to FBref, Tielemans has a better pass completion rate per 90 minutes than Manchester United central midfield trio Casemiro, Scott McTominay and Fred this season.

That suggests the 25-year-old, who has been on Leicester's books since completing a £40million move from Monaco in 2019, could make the Red Devils more comfortable in possession.

Tielemans is also capable of being a serious threat in the final third of the pitch, having racked up 53 goal contributions in 183 appearances for his current employers.

The Belgian is a consistently high performer and James Maddison is the only Leicester teammate to have bettered the 6.88 average match rating handed to him by WhoScored in the Premier League this term.

Tielemans has previously been described as 'one of Europe’s top midfielders' by Foxes chief Brendan Rodgers, which emphasises that Manchester United should look to win the race for his signature.
