Manchester United have made Harry Kane their number one striker target and the Tottenham Hotspur star 'would be perfect' for Erik ten Hag's side at Old Trafford, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

Having fallen 11 points adrift of Premier League leaders Arsenal following a 3-2 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, the Red Devils' squad could be strengthened ahead of the January transfer deadline.

Man United transfer news - Harry Kane

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United have set their sights on striking a summer deal for Kane after ten Hag has put the recruitment of a new first-choice striker at the forefront of his plans.

The report suggests the Red Devils have been encouraged as the England international is open to making the switch to Old Trafford, while Tottenham are seeking a minimum of £85million.

Manchester United are keen to pounce as Kane has entered the final 18 months of his £200,000-per-week contract, leading to uncertainty over his long-term future.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that the 29-year-old has always 'fancied' joining the Red Devils, but warned there is additional interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

However, in a blow for ten Hag, Kane is set to hold talks over fresh terms after the closure of the transfer window and he is willing to pen a new Tottenham deal if the circumstances are right.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Kane?

Taylor believes Kane would seamlessly fit into Manchester United's squad thanks to ten Hag's philosophy.

The journalist feels the likes of Red Devils fan favourite Marcus Rashford could profit from the frontman's playmaker capabilities.

When asked whether the Tottenham man is ten Hag's top striker target for the summer, Taylor told GiveMeSport: "I think so, but it does depend on one key factor and that's whether he feels Kane fits the system.

"Personally, I think he would be perfect for United with the way they're playing at the moment, in terms of dropping deep and players like Rashford going in behind."

Should Man United make signing Kane a summer priority?

Kane has been in sensational form this season, with Transfermarkt statistics showing he has already found the back of the net 18 times and chalked up a further three assists.

He is on course to become the division's all-time leading goalscorer, with Alan Shearer's tally of 260 now firmly in his sights.

That emphasises Kane, who has been on target five times against Manchester United, would be a coup signing.

The talisman also shone at the World Cup, with his 7.34 WhoScored average match rating only being bettered by Bukayo Saka, Jude Bellingham and Harry Maguire.

Kane has previously been described as 'world-class' by Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness, via MailOnline, and Manchester United should make his acquisition a priority.
