Everton supporters 'would go absolutely berserk' if Newcastle United target Anthony Gordon is allowed to leave Goodison Park this month, Daily Express journalist Ryan Taylor has told GiveMeSport.

The Toffees remain in the Premier League's relegation zone after suffering a 2-0 defeat to fellow strugglers West Ham United on Saturday.

Everton transfer news - Anthony Gordon

According to Football Insider, Everton are bracing themselves for Newcastle to make a fresh bid worth upwards of £30million for Gordon.

The report suggests the Magpies are in the market for a versatile forward and have reignited their interest in the Toffees' academy graduate after they had an offer turned down last summer.

Chelsea have also been among Gordon's admirers in recent months and were willing to pay up to £60million for his services last August, but he remained at Goodison Park.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that Newcastle have a ‘good level of interest’ in the 21-year-old, who still has two-and-half years remaining on his £10,000-per-week contract.

Everton are considering approaches for Gordon, while Leicester City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are mulling over whether to head to the negotiating table.

What has Ryan Taylor said about Gordon?

Taylor believes Everton would rather hold onto Gordon for the remainder of the season as he could play a key role in the Merseyside outfit staving off relegation to the Championship.

The journalist also feels it would not go down well in the fanbase if the winger's exit is sanctioned by owner Farhad Moshiri.

Taylor told GiveMeSport: "I think Everton will be clear that they don't want to sell Gordon and also they don't want to sell him mid-season, when they're in a relegation dogfight.

"I think the fans would go absolutely berserk even though he has been subjected to criticism this season. That's one where there is potential for movement, 100%."

Would Everton be making a mistake if they sold Gordon this month?

Gordon is not afraid to get stuck in, with Sofascore statistics showing he has averaged 2.1 tackles per Premier League outing this season, and his presence could go a long way towards Everton maintaining their top flight status.

However, the Toffees will be wanting the England under-21 international to become more prolific as he has scored significantly less goals than the amount of yellow cards he has been shown since the campaign got underway.

Since coming through the youth system, Gordon has found the back of the net seven times and registered a further eight assists in 78 senior appearances for his current employers.

The wide-man has been handed an average match rating of 6.61 by WhoScored, in Premier League clashes, making him the club's joint-eighth best performer.

Although Gordon was overlooked by then-manager Frank Lampard when the Toffees were condemned to another defeat by West Ham at the weekend, he should not be sent through the exit door ahead of the transfer deadline.
