Crystal Palace are unlikely to do much business before the January window slams shut next week, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

The Eagles are yet to sign any players this month despite results going stale at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace transfer news - Patrick Vieira

Palace boss Patrick Vieira appeared to put pressure on the club's board last week when he publicly suggested that it was now down to them to try and boost his squad for the remainder of the campaign.

As quoted by The Athletic, he said: "This is a really difficult window to find those players who can improve the squad.

"We have identified the names of those players that we wanted. Now everything is in the hands of the football club to try and make it happen.

"But at the same time, it’s not an easy one — it’s a really complicated, difficult one. We are working hard to try to bring in those players."

There have been suggestions of a striker arrival, as well as a deal for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher who spent last season on loan at Selhurst Park.

But as things stand, Palace are yet to sign anyone this month, with the January deadline now looming.

What has Dean Jones said about potential Crystal Palace signings?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones suggested that Palace were only ever looking at loan additions this month and he doesn't expect to see much business in south London before the window slams shut.

He told GMS: "We were told very early in this window that Palace wouldn't be looking to do too much. If there were good loan opportunities they would look at them - like a potential deal for Conor Gallagher I guess. But beyond that, I don't think there's going to be too much movement."

Should Crystal Palace be making signings this month?

Palace's board will feel they backed Vieira in the transfer market last season, when they brought in the likes of Michael Olise, Odsonne Edouard, Joachim Anderson and Marc Guehi for decent fees.

It's true that the Eagles haven't quite followed it up this time around, but a significant amount was invested in Cheick Doucoure (£21m), while Chris Richards appeared to be a decent acquisition from Bayern Munich.

New signings don't necessarily make a team better and Vieira shouldn't be given endless resources. He's created a relatively young team at Selhurst Park and the primary goal should be to nurture the talent Palace already have.

That being said, Palace's league position speaks for itself. Currently 12th with just six wins to their name, the Eagles haven't really kicked on from last season, when they finished up in the exact same position.

Fresh blood could help take the team forward and it's clear another source of goals is needed - only five teams in the whole division have scored less than the Eagles this term.
