The NFL is fast approaching the end of the season, so it's time to look back on the year and predict who are going to be taking home some of the awards that will be handed out.

This is usually the time of the week when we would go over the Power Rankings for the league. But with the league down to just four teams, it would be a little bit silly to make a whole article out of it (although for what it's worth, from 1-4 this week it would have been 49ers, Chiefs, Eagles, Bengals).

So instead we're going to look back on what I predicted what the league would look like right now. Before the start of the season, I predicted the division winners, the wild card teams and then the main individual awards that will be handed out at the NFL Honours in a few weeks' time.

How many did I get right, how many did I get wrong? Let's take a look, starting with how I felt the teams would be standing at the end of the regular season:

AFC Division winners: Bengals, Colts, Bills, Chargers

AFC Wildcards: Steelers, Patriots, Chiefs

NFC Division winners: Packers, Buccaneers, Cowboys, Rams

NFC Wildcards: Vikings, Saints, 49ers

Conference Championship games: Los Angeles Chargers to beat the Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Rams to beat the Green Bay Packers

Super Bowl prediction: Los Angeles Chargers over Los Angeles Rams

So 3 division winners were picked correctly, and 8 of the 14 teams made the playoffs in one form or another. So certainly a below-average return on that one, and boy oh boy was I wrong when it came to how the rest of the postseason would play out.

Now we move into the individual awards, here you’ll find the people I predicted to win a lot of the main awards, followed by who I think will probably take home the award based on what they’ve done over the course of the season. Bear in mind these are judged just on the regular season, so postseason accomplishments do not factor into this:

MVP - Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills. Revised prediction: Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: A pretty easy one to start off with. The leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns, the MVP award more often than not goes to a quarterback, so this one is pretty much nailed on.

Patrick Mahomes

Offensive Player of the Year - Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts. Revised prediction: Justin Jefferson, Minnesota Vikings: A poor year from Taylor makes this one easy to rule him out for, and with Justin Jefferson coming close to breaking the single-season record for receiving yards, he was by far the best non-quarterback performer in the league all year.

Defensive Player of the Year - Micah Parsons, Dallas Cowboys. Revised prediction: Nick Bosa, San Francisco 49ers: Anchored a defense that ranked 1st in points allowed and yards per game and leading the league with 18.5 sacks, Nick Bosa is a pretty obvious one to pick here. Although with 13.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles of his own, Micah Parsons wasn’t necessarily a bad shout.

Offensive Rookie of the Year - George Pickens, Pittsburgh Steelers. Revised prediction: Brock Purdy, San Francisco 49ers: The ultimate Cinderella story for Brock Purdy as he helped guide the San Francisco 49ers through a potentially rocky patch and into the NFC Championship game. A number of wide receivers could put their hands up here, but again, the quarterback 'favouritism’ probably leans towards Purdy taking this one.

Defensive Rookie of the Year - Jordan Davis, Philadelphia Eagles. Revised prediction: Ahmad ‘Sauce’ Gardner, New York Jets: Another incredibly easy one to predict, the only rookie selected to the All-Pro team, and pretty much a shoe-in for this award.

Head Coach of the Year - Mike McCarthy, Dallas Cowboys. Revised prediction: Doug Pederson, Jacksonville Jaguars: Managed to take a team that had back-to-back #1 draft picks and take them to the playoffs. This could have gone to either of the New York teams, and if the Jags had missed out, I’d probably have given it to Brian Daboll, but with the finish, Pederson just nicks it.

Comeback Player of the Year - Travis Etienne, Jacksonville Jaguars. Revised prediction: Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks: A little bit of a tricky one, and for this I did have to cheat a bit and lean on the oddsmakers. Usually this goes to a player coming back from injury, in which case Travis Etienne might well stand a good chance, but having seen what they categorise as a ‘comeback’ and how it includes a return to form, then Geno Smith will probably take home the award, and after the year he has had, rightfully so.
