Liverpool are expected to up the ante in their pursuit of Jude Bellingham despite it being clear the Borussia Dortmund star will not arrive at Anfield this month, transfer insider Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could still add reinforcements to his squad, having already completed the £44million acquisition of Cody Gakpo, ahead of the fast-approaching January deadline.

Liverpool transfer news - Jude Bellingham

According to Sky in Germany, via Sky Sports, Liverpool remain the favourites to sign Bellingham in the summer.

The report suggests the Merseyside outfit are ahead of Real Madrid and Manchester City in the race for the England international's signature, with Dortmund seeking up to £133million for his services.

Bellingham's current employers are set to suffer a blow in their bid to keep him at Signal Iduna Park as he is poised to reject a £180,000-per-week contract offer in favour of a move away.

That will increase Liverpool's hopes of striking a deal after the teenager has been identified as their top transfer target and the club have set their sights on luring him to Anfield at the end of the season.

Respected journalist Christian Falk recently told GiveMeSport that Klopp is ‘fighting’ for Fenway Sports Group to stump up the cash needed to seal Bellingham's arrival.

What has Dean Jones said about Bellingham?

Jones is expecting Liverpool to head to the negotiating table when it becomes clear that Bellingham is unwilling to commit his long-term future to Dortmund.

However, the journalist is aware that a move to Merseyside ahead of the January transfer window slamming shut is out of the question.

Jones told GiveMeSport: "I'm sure that Liverpool are going to give this a go but, obviously, it's not going to happen this month.

"It is not going to help them in the immediate future because Bellingham's decision on leaving is going to hinge on the summer."

What would Bellingham add to Liverpool's squad?

According to Sofascore, Bellingham found the back of the net, grabbed an assist, had 101 touches of the ball and won eight ground duels during Dortmund's 4-3 victory over Augsburg last weekend.

That emphasises the 19-year-old, who has already made over 100 appearances for the German giants, is a combative midfielder who contributes at both ends of the pitch.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic has described Bellingham as 'unbelievable', so it is clear that he is desperate to see the talisman sign on the dotted line at Signal Iduna Park.

But the Bundesliga side's loss would certainly be Liverpool's gain if they can get a deal over the line and he made a lasting impression at the World Cup as well, with Bukayo Saka being the only England teammate to better the 7.58 average match rating handed to the former Birmingham City man by WhoScored.

With James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s respective contracts being due to expire in the summer, Liverpool should not think twice about moving for Bellingham.
