Tottenham Hotspur still regard Pedro Porro as their "primary target", even if they won't pay the full release clause, Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told GIVEMESPORT.

Porro has been on Spurs' radar for the entire January window, but Sheth is unsure if they'll have time to get a deal done.

Tottenham Hotspur transfer news - Pedro Porro

It was reported at the beginning of the month by The Athletic that Tottenham were eyeing up a move for Sporting CP right-back Porro.

According to the report, Spurs were made abundantly clear that Porro would not be available for transfer, unless they paid the £40 million release clause in full.

However, further reports this week suggest a deal could be closer to being completed, as the January deadline looms larger.

The Athletic are suggesting both Spurs and Sporting met for crunch talks around the right-back's prospective move, with the north Londoners confident they can agree a price below Sporting's asking price of £40 million.

As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, such talks were positive, with Sporting already said to be exploring replacements on the market ahead of Porro's mooted departure.

With just days of the window remaining, the general consensus appears to be pointing towards a deal getting agreed and the onus is now on Spurs to present Sporting with an acceptable fee.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about Porro to Tottenham?

One of European football's most promising talents, the 23-year-old right-back has caught the eye this season, most notably against Spurs in the Champions League group stage.

Now, in an interview with GMS, Sky Sports reporter Sheth has hinted Porro could be about to join Antonio Conte's side.

On the 23-year-old, Sheth said: "It’s clear that Pedro Porro is their primary target and they want to bring him in.

"They’ve got a few days to do the deal, maybe a little bit of brinkmanship, whereby they’ll go to Sporting and say, we can do this deal right now, but we want to do it on our terms.

"It is clear, as it stands, Tottenham don’t want to pay the full release clause.”

What would Porro offer Tottenham this season?

As per WhoScored, Porro is the second-highest-ranked player for Sporting in all competitions this season, averaging a score of 7.19.

It's no surprise Porro is on the radar of top European sides, given his impressive performances this term, with the Spaniard having contributed to 14 goals so far.

While he may have only netted three times, Porro has provided the assist for 11 goals this season - remarkable numbers for a right-back.

Porro would likely be parachuted straight into the Tottenham starting-11, with none of Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty or Djed Spence having nailed down the number-one spot.

With age still on his side, Porro could prove a worthwhile acquisition for Tottenham, should they get the deal over the line this month.
