Chris Jericho is, without a doubt, one of the funniest superstars in WWE history, as seen in a hilarious interaction with a fan in 2009.

In a career spanning over 30 years at this point, Y2J has consistently adapted and refreshed his character and gimmick, allowing him to stay relevant and noteworthy to multiple generations. Whether as a face or a heel, he is usually must-see TV.

His brilliant and hilarious heel work is on display when he gets involved with a fan at ringside.

What happened with Chris Jericho and the fan?

After a Smackdown show in 2009, Jericho was speaking to the audience in what was not a televised segment. He then singled out an elderly fan standing at ringside who he immediately had an issue with. This led to a brilliantly funny back and forth between the pair.

Y2J asked the fan if he had stuck his tongue out at him or given him the finger. As he mocked his age, he asked him to take off his jacket, a jacket Jericho wondered if he had gotten when he “stormed the beaches of Normandy.” Brilliant.

He also channelled his inner Shooter McGavin, telling the fan that he “eat guys like you for breakfast” as he implored the fan to hit him.

If you thought that was funny, Jericho then attempted to get the fan and those with him ejected for the apparent use of profanity, going as far as to read the back of a ticket which said “no laser pointers, no throwing glow sticks and no profanities.”

Whether the fan did swear or Jericho just made it up is irrelevant as it was phenomenal comedy either way, which you can see in the below clip (shared on Twitter by @WrestleClips)

Is Jericho better as a heel or a face?

It’s a genuinely hard question given he plays both roles so well. Few if any wrestlers have been as adaptable as Y2J in the history of the business.

His heel work from 2008-10 was amongst the very best of his entire career, and it is interesting to see shades of his future more pure comedic heel role on show here. “You know what” was the precursor for people making “The List” in 2016 and 2017 for example.

Comments left on the thread reflect much of these views, with one wondering if that fan is on the list now?

Where is Chris Jericho now?

As another sign of his continued relevance, Jericho is coming off one of the best in-ring years in over a decade in AEW. Leading the Jericho Appreciation Society, he won the Ring of Honor World Championship and put over several young superstars at the same time.

Whether he ever returns to WWE as an in-ring performer is up for debate but his spot as a first ballot Hall of Famer is not. One of the very best to ever do it.
