Newcastle United are feeling confident about their rumoured pursuit of Anthony Gordon, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook told GIVEMESPORT.

Gordon has been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this month and Crook expects Newcastle to keep pushing for a deal.

Newcastle United transfer news - Anthony Gordon

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are looking to bring Gordon to the club during the final days of the January window.

After letting Chris Wood leave for Nottingham Forest on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy for £15 million in the summer, Eddie Howe is said to be pushing the board to bring in another attacker.

While not necessarily a direct replacement, the report in The Athletic states Howe is keen on Gordon because of his ability to play anywhere across the front three.

It comes just months after Gordon was subject to a £45 million bid from Chelsea in the summer, which Everton swiftly rejected, indicating he wasn't for sale.

But with Everton now staring down the barrel of relegation to the Championship, it looks as if Gordon could be making the switch to the North East.

What has Alex Crook said about Gordon to Newcastle?

Speaking on the forward, Crook admitted there were positive signs coming out of Newcastle, while also casting doubt on whether Howe's side would get the deal over the line.

On the 21-year-old, Crook said: "There are different views on this. A few people close to Newcastle have suggested they’re confident they can get the deal done.

"I think it’s more unlikely than likely at this stage, just because of the asking price.”

Would Gordon be a worthwhile signing for Newcastle this window?

Establishing himself as a fixture in the Everton starting-11 last season, Gordon contributed to seven goals during the Toffees' dramatic relegation battle (Transfermarkt).

However, Gordon has been unable to replicate such form this time around, having found the net just three times in the Premier League this season.

Nonetheless, with age on his side, Gordon still has plenty of room for improvement, with Howe no doubt hoping he'll be able to help the England under-21 international thrive on Tyneside.

A forward capable of operating on either flank, while Gordon is adept at offering plenty going forwards, his off-the-ball work shouldn't be overlooked.

As per FBref, Gordon ranks inside the top three per cent for tackles made each match, when compared to other attackers, indicating Gordon would suit Howe's hard-working style of play.
