Chelsea are 'not willing' to let Trevoh Chalobah leave in the January transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The Blues have strengthened significantly this month, so some exits could be expected at Stamford Bridge, but it appears as though the defender is set to stay for the rest of the season.

Chelsea transfer news - Trevoh Chalobah

Chalobah committed his long-term future to Chelsea earlier this season, penning a deal to keep him with the west-London club until at least 2028, while there is also an option to extend it by an additional year.

The £50k-a-week earner (Capology) had been attracting interest from elsewhere earlier this season, with Football Italia reporting that Inter Milan were considering a move, as a potential replacement for Milan Skriniar. (via SI)

Interest from the Italian club initially appeared to die down, however the Evening Standard report that the Blues have knocked back a loan offer during the January transfer window, as they consider the 23-year-old too important to let go.

What has Simon Phillips said about Trevoh Chalobah?

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, Phillips appeared to indicate that the Cobham academy graduate is set to stay at the club for the rest of the season.

The journalist said: "On the club side of things, Chelsea at the moment are not willing to listen to offers for Chalobah, because they want him for depth and they need him in the squad, they like his versatility.

"They're not ready to entertain any offers this month."

Should Trevoh Chalobah be kept by Graham Potter?

Hailed as a 'monster' by football scout Jacek Kulig, Chalobah has started to reignite his Chelsea career in recent weeks, most recently looking solid in the trip to Anfield, helping the Blues keep a clean sheet by winning every duel he contested. (SofaScore)

The versatile defender started as part of a back three against Liverpool, but he is also adept at playing right-back, making three tackles and two interceptions from that position in the 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace, as per SofaScore.

Considering he is still only 23, the Englishman has a lot of time to develop his game further, but he is already a good option for Potter to have in defence, at the very least as a back-up for Reece James, who has already missed 16 games this season with a knee injury, as per Transfermarkt.

As such, the manager should continue to give Chalobah opportunities in the first team for the remainder of the campaign.
