West Ham United are 'comfortable' with their current centre-back options, though could go 'into the market' if defensive injury problems emerge, Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth has informed GIVEMESPORT.

David Moyes has sought reinforcements to aid his side in their battle for Premier League safety, with deals for Luizao and Danny Ings being ratified already at the London Stadium.

West Ham Transfer News

According to 90Min, West Ham are one of several sides to be offered the chance to sign Shakhtar Donetsk central defender Mikola Matvienko this window.

The 26-year-old is currently locked in talks with Brighton & Hove Albion over a potential move, which could cost in the region of £21.9 million to complete. An initial loan with an option to buy has also been discussed by the Seagulls.

Brentford and Leicester City are also rumoured to be eying a swoop from the player, who had also attracted interest from clubs in Germany and Italy.

Earlier in the window, talkSPORT claimed that Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is also on the radar at the London Stadium; however, the Red Devils will not entertain any bids for the 29-year-old until the summer.

What has Dharmesh Sheth said about West Ham's transfer latest?

Sky Sports journalist Sheth has stated that West Ham will only enter the market for reinforcements in their backline if any potentially severe injuries crop up in the next few days.

Sheth told GMS: "I think West Ham are comfortable just now with the options that they have in central defence.

"If any of the injuries that they do get within the next six days or so are worse than first feared, then I think they'll go into the market, but no plans do, as far as I'm told at the moment."

Should David Moyes bring another defender to the London Stadium?

In light of losing Craig Dawson to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £3.3 million, there is an argument to say that West Ham have opened up a space to bring in another centre-back this month.

Of course, Luizao has been brought in from Sao Paulo; nevertheless, has joined up with the Hammers development squad and isn't expected to be ready for first-team action for a while.

That leaves Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer, Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma to fight it out for starting positions. Presently, 28-year-old Zouma has sustained a knock, which could keep him out of some important upcoming fixtures, as per Football London.

Given their current predicament in the Premier League, it may be wise for Moyes to add some additional depth to his central defence to ensure plenty of options are available if necessary for the Hammers moving forward.
