Manchester United are pushing forward Marcus Rashford into signing a new contract with the Old Trafford outfit, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The 25-year-old currently has just 18 months remaining on his £200,000-per-week deal with Erik ten Hag’s side.

Man Utd contract news – Marcus Rashford

Ahead of United’s 3-0 Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg victory at Nottingham Forest on Wednesday evening, ten Hag implored Rashford to sign a new deal with the Red Devils, suggesting that he’s currently in the “best place to be.”

The Dutchman said (via The Metro): “I think he understands Man United is his club, that’s first. But also, in this environment, in this team, I think he is playing his best football. Then, I would say this is the best place to be because we want to construct the best team, first in England, then in Europe, then in the world.”

Romano has previously told GiveMeSport that the Red Devils want to be quick in tying the academy product to a new long-term deal with the Manchester giants.

And the journalist has now said that ten Hag is “pushing in private” to make both the club and player understand how important Rashford is to United’s long-term future.

What has Romano said about Man Utd and Rashford?

Romano told GiveMeSport: “Erik ten Hag is pushing in private with the player and the club to make them understand how important it is to keep Rashford and how complicated it could be to lose that kind of player on a free in the summer of 2024.

“It will also be difficult for United to find another English player who knows the Manchester United environment very well.”

How has Rashford performed for Man Utd this season?

Rashford has been in exceptional form for ten Hag’s side this season, having hit the back of the net nine times whilst providing three assists in 20 Premier League appearances so far.

The 51-cap England international’s showings in the top flight have earned him an average WhoScored rating of 6.98 for the current campaign, ranking him as ten Hag’s third-best-performing player behind Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro.

And the Manchester-born star compares favourably with his positional peers, ranking in the top 13% of attacking midfielders/wingers across Europe’s big five leagues as well as the Champions League and Europa League for non-penalty goals (0.43) and the top 13% of forwards for dribbles completed per 90 minutes (1.29) over the last 365 days, as per FBref.

Therefore, it’s obvious to see why ten Hag is so desperate to keep Rashford at Old Trafford for the long-term future, and tying the versatile forward down to a new deal will now be a matter of priority at Old Trafford.
