Manchester United are happy with Antony, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport.

The Brazilian winger has come in for some criticism of late, but Romano says those at Old Trafford are still satisfied with him.

Man United news - Antony

Antony arrived at Old Trafford last summer with high expectations after joining from Ajax in a massive £86m deal, as reported by Sky Sports.

However, the 22-year-old is yet to provide an assist in the Premier League (via Transfermarkt) and has not impressed everyone.

“The concerning thing for me with somebody like Antony is that he can’t beat anyone - and for a Brazilian that’s surprising," United legend Rio Ferdinand recently said on his YouTube channel FIVE.

“He just doesn’t beat anyone and I’m sitting there thinking, ‘Was that always the way?’ I’ve seen clips of him when he was at Ajax and he was somebody who used to beat people."

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Antony and Man United?

While not everyone seems to be delighted with what they have seen from Antony so far, Romano says United are pleased with the winger and understand there will be an adaptation period.

Speaking to GMS, the Italian journalist said: "With Antony, I'm sure they know it will take time to adapt to the Premier League. It's a completely different country, completely different level of club and also a completely different league, of course, so they're happy with him."

Will Antony get better?

You certainly would expect him to. As already highlighted, Antony needs time to adapt, while he is still also quite young. Naturally, the former Ajax man, who is on a £200,000-a-week contract, according to Capology, should improve as he gets older.

Overall, you would not say that Antony has been a complete disaster. The Brazil international has managed to score a few goals in the Premier League this season, which includes strikes against both Arsenal and Manchester City.

It does not justify his £86m price tag, but it shows what he can do on his day and is quite a promising sign.

All in all, Antony probably has not done enough this season and was arguably never worth the amount of money United paid for him to begin with. Still, it is early days and there have been glimpses of his skill and quality, so things may pick up later down the line.

Erik ten Hag also seems to be a big fan of the player, having worked with him previously at Ajax, so it is unlikely that the Dutchman will give up on the United star.
