Newcastle United will have to pay a higher price for Leeds United winger Jack Harrison than other interested clubs, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook has told GiveMeSport.

The Whites wide man could be on the move before the January transfer window slams shut, but a switch to St. James' Park now seems unlikely.

Newcastle transfer news - Jack Harrison

With Leeds looking to bring in Weston McKennie and Azzedine Ounahi before Tuesday's 11pm deadline, it was been suggested by The Daily Mail that Harrison could be allowed to leave the club.

The 26-year-old had been one of Leeds' more prominent performers in previous campaigns, racking up 16 goals and nine assists across his first two Premier League seasons.

However, he seems a little more expendable under Jesse Marsch and has tellingly played the full ninety minutes on only five occasions this season - either finding himself subbed on or subbed off during a further 12.

Marsch now has Crysencio Summerville, Luis Sinisterra and Wilfried Gnoto to call upon out wide, while Brenden Aaronson can play there if needed, and Harrison's contract has entered its final 18 months. That's perhaps why there have been suggestions of Leeds cashing in for £35m.

It has also been claimed that Newcastle could move for Harrison - after having a series of bids for him rejected in the summer - if their pursuit of Anthony Gordon falls apart.

The Magpies have reportedly agreed a fee for the Everton youngster, but there is always the potential for a late hiccup.

What has Alex Crook said about Newcastle and Jack Harrison?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Crook claimed that Newcastle would need to pay a premium if they were to try and sign Harrison, before suggesting that the Magpies "wouldn't pay over the odds" for the Leeds United star.

He said: "I've been told there are almost two different prices for Jack Harrison. There's the Newcastle price, and then there's the price for everybody else."

Would Harrison be a good signing for Newcastle?

Harrison is a solid Premier League player, as his aforementioned record in the division suggests. This year he's provided one goal and four assists, despite Leeds only being a point above the relegation zone.

But he isn't somebody worth breaking the bank for. £35m seems a little steep considering the former New York City FC man's contract situation, so paying a surplus on top of that - purely because of Newcastle's ownership situation - just doesn't seem worth it.

Another option in attack would certainly boost Newcastle's hopes of finishing inside the top four, but there will be more cost-effective solutions than Harrison on the market.
