Aston Villa target Matteo Guendouzi is 'aware' of interest in his services from Villa Park as Unai Emery chases his signature, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has informed GIVEMESPORT.

The 23-year-old has impressed this season at Marseille, putting in some stellar performances which have aided their push for the Ligue 1 title.

Aston Villa latest transfer news - Matteo Guendouzi

Earlier this window, The Daily Mail reported that Aston Villa had made inroads to try and sign Guendouzi, with boss Unai Emery said to be a massive fan of the midfielder.

The Spaniard brought the France international to the Premier League back in 2018 with Arsenal when he was in charge at the Emirates.

Nevertheless, Marseille are keen to retain his services this window. The French giants are said to value Guendouzi at £30 million currently and a bid in that region could leave them with a decision to make.

More recently, Football Insider has claimed that Aston Villa are looking to step up their interest in Guendouzi before the close of play in the market.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Matteo Guendouzi?

Transfer insider Romano has said that although Guendouzi is 'aware' of interest from Villa Park, no official bid has been made as of yet.

Romano told GMS: "At the moment, from Marseille, they are still waiting for the official bid. They know about the interest; the player is aware of the interest of Unai Emery but still no official bid."

Would Guendouzi be a good signing for Aston Villa?

Despite having an opinion-splitting first spell in the Premier League at Arsenal, there is no doubt that Guendouzi is a talented midfielder that could give Aston Villa some fresh ideas in the engine room going forward.

In 2022/23, the 23-year-old has made 25 appearances in all competitions for Marseille, registering four goals and four assists, as per Transfermarkt.

His ability to productively circulate possession has also been clear to see this campaign, with WhoScored noting that Guendouzi has recorded an 88.8% pass success rate in his exploits for club and country.

With Aston Villa keen to stake a claim for a top-half finish in the English top flight, Guendouzi could certainly offer some extra legs in the midfield and challenge for first-team starts if a move does indeed arise.
