Leeds United could turn to Leicester City star Ayoze Perez as Jesse Marsch looks to bolster his attacking options at Elland Road, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Whites broke their transfer record when they completed the £36million acquisition of Georginio Rutter earlier this month, but further reinforcements could be drafted in ahead of the fast-approaching January deadline.

Leeds transfer news - Ayoze Perez

There is doubt over where Perez's long-term future lies as, according to Spanish sources, a switch to La Liga side Real Betis has collapsed.

But the report suggests a move away from Leicester could still be on the cards as Villarreal are still in the hunt for the forward's signature.

Perez is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with an overseas club after entering the final six months of his £83,000-per-week deal.

But, with the January window being the final opportunity for the Spaniard's current employers to cash-in, the Foxes are willing to sanction his exit for a moderate fee in the coming days.

Transfer insider Dean Jones recently told GiveMeSport that further Leeds arrivals cannot be ruled out this month.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Perez?

Jacobs believes Leeds, who are on the verge of signing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, could make a move for Perez during the final stages of the winter transfer window.

The respected journalist feels the 29-year-old's Newcastle United stint, prior to joining Leicester in a £30million deal three-and-a-half years ago, shows he is capable of being a force for Marsch's charges.

Jacobs told GiveMeSport: "I think that one name to keep an eye on, potentially, could be Ayoze Perez.

"He hasn't done well at Leicester but proved that, if given a run of form, he could be valuable to a Premier League club from his Newcastle days."

Would Perez be a good signing for Leeds?

Perez has scored 45 goals and registered a further 17 assists in 223 Premier League appearances, according to Transfermarkt.

His top flight experience will be an attraction for Leeds, although he has struggled for form this season and has only found the back of the net once.

Perez is not afraid to get involved when his side are out of possession, with Sofascore statistics showing he has averaged 1.4 tackles since the Premier League campaign got underway.

Rodrigo is Leeds' top goalscorer this term, having got his name on the scoresheet 12 times, but it could be argued that the Leicester man would offer the Whites even more.

That is because FBref data emphasises Perez notches more assists, tackles, blocks and interceptions per 90 minutes this season, so it is clear he would be a shrewd signing.
