Chelsea will provide a 'surprise' during the final days of the January transfer window, CBS reporter Ben Jacobs has told GiveMeSport.

The Blues have already caused waves in the transfer market this month but Jacobs is anticipating more 'aggressive' activity at Stamford Bridge between now and Tuesday's 11pm deadline.

Chelsea transfer news - January window

Chelsea have been by far the Premier League's biggest spenders this January, shelling out over £180m to try and bolster Graham Potter's first-team squad.

Deals for Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Benoit Badiashile, David Fofana, Andrey Santos and Malo Gusto have all been agreed this month, although the latter trio are all very much signings for the future.

But it's no secret that the Blues have been on the hunt for a midfielder, having pursued Brighton's Moises Caicedo, Benfica's Enzo Fernandez and even Everton's Amadou Onana.

And the west London club are not expected to give up without a fight as the mid-season transfer deadline begins to loom.

What has Ben Jacobs said about Chelsea's transfer business?

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs suggested that Chelsea will 'surprise' people by continuing to spend big in the final days of the transfer window, despite their considerable outlay already this month.

He told GMS: "Chelsea will surprise us in the final few days of the window - Chelsea will be aggressive in the final few days of the window. This is down to the fact that despite their big spending and a lot of exciting, creative-minded players coming in like Mudryk, Madueke and Felix, one of their priorities at the beginning of the window was a midfielder. They still haven't got a midfielder and there's only a few days left of the window."

Who could Chelsea still sign this month?

It remains to be seen just what happens with Caicedo after very publicly calling for Brighton to let him leave the club, but it wouldn't be entirely shocking if Chelsea decided to cough up the south coast outfit's £80m asking price for the Ecuador international.

Meanwhile, the west Londoners could always complete a late deal for Benfica's Fernandez by simply agreeing to pay his £106m release clause.

Away from central midfielders, Chelsea's starting XI is crying out for a centre-forward. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has barely featured since arriving from Barcelona in the summer, leaving Kai Havertz to lead the line with lukewarm results - he's netted just five times in the Premier League.

Top quality strikers aren't exactly in bountiful supply at the minute, however, so it's hard to name who exactly Chelsea might be tempted to go for on that front.
