In the Derby del Sole yesterday, Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma faced title chargers Napoli in an important game for the seasons of both clubs.

Napoli have been in fantastic form this season having amassed an impressive 50 points at the halfway stage. Roma, meanwhile, are amongst the large chasing pack battling it out for Champions League football, so maximum points were equally important for them.

However, it was the league leaders who took all three points late on thanks to an 86th minute goal from Giovanni Simeone for a 2-1 win.

AS Roma vs Napoli

Going into the game, Roma had been on a six-game unbeaten run, but despite a Stephan El Shaarawy equaliser, Napoli proved yet again infallible as they won their 17th game from 20 this season to open up a 13-point gap at the top. Roma are sixth, but just three points behind second placed Inter Milan.

It was another impressive victory from the inspired Naples outfit, but Mourinho managed to steal some of the headlines for his side at the end of the game as he got his defeated team to pose for a team photo.

Jose Mourinho's post-match request

As one might expect, it isn’t a particularly joyful photo and the looks on the faces of the players tells you essentially all you need to know about their enthusiasm for it.

The photo includes the match-day squad along with staff, but there is not a smile to be seen amongst them. In fact, other than Mourinho, there is very little emotion in general as the players look devastated and forlorn after their defeat.

Mourinho, in contrast, looks as if he is still yelling orders to his players out on the pitch or questioning the decisions of the officials. If you cropped him out of this photo and put him out on the pitch, you wouldn’t notice a difference.

One particularly glum corner of the photo includes goalkeeper Rui Patricio and Tammy Abraham. Patricio looks positively enraged at the photographer whereas Abraham clearly can’t believe what is going on.

For us football fans, though, this is just another moment in the long story of Jose Mourinho’s ridiculous managerial career.

From sprinting down the touchline to calling himself ‘The Special One’, whether you love him or hate him, the man never fails to provide entertainment.

No doubt this team photo will be up in the changing room for the next game reminding the players not to let themselves feel this way again.

The man really is a character. Never change Jose!
